The 2.00'' inch Garden Auger features a thick, hardened, knife-like cutter blade that slices through harder ground and clay. Designed with three flats on the end of the shaft to keep the auger from slipping in your drill chuck.
The 2" diameter Heavy Duty Garden Auger by Custom Auger Systems is the perfect planting auger for smaller bulbs like the crocus or miniature dahlia and gladiolus. Also an excellent tool for drilling pilot holes for tree and fertilizer stakes, and installing termite bait stations.
Fits household drills 3/8" diameter and larger. Any corded drill provides plenty of power; if using a cordless drill, an 18 volt DeWalt or Milwaukee is recommended.
HELPFUL TIPS FOR USING THE AUGER
ANY corded drill that has a 3/8'' or larger chuck will be able to power this earth auger. If you want to use a cordless drill, we recommend an 18 volt, good brand name drill like a DeWalt or Milwaukee.
Check closely when you chuck the drill up on the auger shaft- the flats on the end of the auger shaft should match up with the flats of the drill chuck. Failure to match the flats of the auger shaft to the drill can result in a loose auger that could spin in the drill chuck.
If the auger does not seem to penetrate the ground when you start drilling, check to see if your drill is in the reverse gear. A garden auger will not dig if the drill is in reverse.
Know where your electric and gas lines are buried, and always wear safety eyewear.
You should use your drill in the lowest gear setting possible.

I own 7 augers that I purchased from Custom Auger, including a few of their high end industrial models.
There is abig diference in theirs compared with the less expensive others sold on Amazon and hardware stores. The difference is the cutting edge. It is made of much heavier steel. Their service is beyond excellent. They ship on the same or next business day by Priority Mail. I usually get them in two or three days. You can't beat Tom and Becky. They are a family husband and wife business. If you want the auger to last, buy from Custom Auger. If you want it for two or three holes, the cheap ones "MIGHT" do.

heavy duty hole maker,

I bought this to drill holes into my heavy clay soil to drop in tree food spikes for my trees. So I'm going through grass/sod, roots, and the occasional thumb sized rock.
Once the top grass/sod is out of the way (all augers I've owned have trouble with this) it drives deep and cuts through the roots. Works pretty well. The bevel on the drill end is pretty minor - almost non-existant. And there's only one bevel, so you'll have to tighten the chuck pretty well -exactly- on that one bevel to make sure this doesn't slip.... That's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. This is slightly smaller diameter than I need so I have to use a less sturdy, but larger auger to finish the job. but I knew this when I bought it, so I can't ding the product for that...

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Garden Auger Bulb Planter for Soil and Earth Heavy Duty 2.00" Dia X 24'' Length
Works great! I found some rocks, and with a little ingenuity, used the drill to bore a couple of holes around, popped the 4-6" rocks right out. In this way was able to plant some gallon size plants in hard pan/clay. Over dig/bore with this to loosen and remove now loose dirt, fill with potting soil, and drop your new plant in with confidence. As far as a bulb planter, I dropped the single plants that come in a soft 6 pack, with such ease. My only regret is waiting so long to finally buy this gem. The unit has pretty beefy welds and I really doubt I'll ever break it. A 17lb digging bar barely sinks 2" into our soil unless soaked well in advance. What a relief to find this tool. 18V Milwaukee was doing the twisting.
