I own 7 augers that I purchased from Custom Auger, including a few of their high end industrial models.
There is abig diference in theirs compared with the less expensive others sold on Amazon and hardware stores. The difference is the cutting edge. It is made of much heavier steel. Their service is beyond excellent. They ship on the same or next business day by Priority Mail. I usually get them in two or three days. You can't beat Tom and Becky. They are a family husband and wife business. If you want the auger to last, buy from Custom Auger. If you want it for two or three holes, the cheap ones "MIGHT" do.

heavy duty hole maker,

I bought this to drill holes into my heavy clay soil to drop in tree food spikes for my trees. So I'm going through grass/sod, roots, and the occasional thumb sized rock.
Once the top grass/sod is out of the way (all augers I've owned have trouble with this) it drives deep and cuts through the roots. Works pretty well. The bevel on the drill end is pretty minor - almost non-existant. And there's only one bevel, so you'll have to tighten the chuck pretty well -exactly- on that one bevel to make sure this doesn't slip.... That's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. This is slightly smaller diameter than I need so I have to use a less sturdy, but larger auger to finish the job. but I knew this when I bought it, so I can't ding the product for that...

Awesome Digging Tool,

Works great! I found some rocks, and with a little ingenuity, used the drill to bore a couple of holes around, popped the 4-6" rocks right out. In this way was able to plant some gallon size plants in hard pan/clay. Over dig/bore with this to loosen and remove now loose dirt, fill with potting soil, and drop your new plant in with confidence. As far as a bulb planter, I dropped the single plants that come in a soft 6 pack, with such ease. My only regret is waiting so long to finally buy this gem. The unit has pretty beefy welds and I really doubt I'll ever break it. A 17lb digging bar barely sinks 2" into our soil unless soaked well in advance. What a relief to find this tool. 18V Milwaukee was doing the twisting.

I bought this for my wife to make planting easier for her. I figured the smaller diameter would be easier for her to handle and it was.
I strongly strongly suggest that you test with different torque settings on a decent cordless drill because if it jams on a root or a rock the auger will stop but the drill will continue to spin which twists the wrists and I don't care how strong one may think they are even using two hands when it stops on a root you get a nasty twist of the wrists as the drill spins out of your hands. My Ridged drill has settings from 1 to 20 and 12 to 14 worked ok for me but I set it at 10 for my wife. If you use a corded drill the cord could wrap around your hand. I also made sure my wife knew how to reverse the drill in case it does jamb on a root and made sure she knew how all the features of the drill worked so she would be safe using it. The auger itself is very robust but is not a pry bar. My wife planted several dozen hostas in about an hour instead of half a day digging. She loves it. I looked at the skinnier augers but I thought they would break on rocks or roots.

I purchased this product for installing in ground termite baiting monitors. The description of the auger being heavy duty fits the bill in varying soil types, from clay, rocky or just plan old dirt. It breaks through with not a great deal of effort. For the gardener this would be an exceptional auger for planting bulbs and even small plants.

Soil auger - 2 inch,

This item might seem over priced when compared with other available augers. However based other reviews I bought it. It is well made, with a carbide bit weld on the auger. Does an excellent job in cuttting the smaller roots on plants and trees. I would suggest that you brace your hand holding drill, against the side of your right leg. If the auger encounters an object with great resistance, it will want to twist your wrist. Very painful.

When I knew that I was in the market for one of these, I shopped and compared prices and quality. I purchased this one over others I considered, because I have heavy clay soil which is not easy to drill through.
We used this to plant fall bulbs and it saved me so much work and time. I now use it to plant in my garden as well. It is well-made and very durable, I will admit I could of bought others that were less, but this does the job for me and I know those others were made too light for my soil. I believe in quality and durability and I am willing to pay the extra $$ if it is going to do the job that I need done. I highly recommend this product to anyone who is considering purchasing one, because I don't think you will be disappointed. We use it on one of our Bosch cordless 14.4 volt drills.

AMAZING,
This review is from: Garden Auger Bulb Planter for Soil and Earth Heavy Duty 2.00" Dia X 24'' Length
I purchased this auger after I mistakenly ordered doubles on my fall order. Last year we bought one the the manual bulb hole diggers, which was a piece of junk! THIS AUGER IS AMAZING AND I HAD SO MUCH FUN! I was able to plant over 30 bulbs (which didn't put a dent in my order) in under 20 minutes! Soooooo easy, well worth the money. I can see where it will come in handy planting the tomatoes in our garden next spring as well!

I dreaded doing yard work because I have clay and rocks for soil. This bit on my 18V drill made quick work of my hard soil. All I had to do is shovel out the loose dirt.

I own 2 of the 2" heavy duty models. I originally purchased them to plant flowers for work. I one week to plant about 15,000 plants annuals in April. These are very rugged and hold up very well. I originally used my 14.4v Dewalt cordless drill to drive this auger. In loose soil, it can go for a long time between batteries. If the ground is hard, you will be changing batteries often. For home planting, a 14.4v drill should do fine. However a 18v cordless would be much better. I found many used for these augers. I recently bought a house and I discovered that all of my metal window wells were rusted through at ground level. In order to replace them, you have to dig them out. I dug the fist one out and it took a long time and a crap load of effort. I got the good idea to use this auger to help break op the soil. I whipped out my 1/2 inch Dewalt CORDED drill and attached the auger. Combining the super torque of a 1/2 inch corded drill with this auger makes a POWERFULL tool. I would plunge this auger into the ground around the old window well about 50 times. The ground would be completely broken up. I started to shovel the dirt and it was like shoveling loose fill dirt. I've also used this to loosen up dirt around bush stumps that I was removing. Buy one of these! They are worth their weight in gold!
