--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.PreS-A series of books featuring bright ``baby'' dinosaurs in the garden, on vacation, at home, and at a playgroup. These are ``naming'' books- each page shows an activity or an object, related to the respective title's theme. For the most part, the activities are depicted in somewhat random fashion, without a clear sense of progression or visual surprise. In At Home, a series of pictures shows different dinosaurs holding an alarm clock, talking on the telephone, and holding crayons (with no paper in sight). While the books are colorful, the stylized watercolor-and-pen art is not particularly expressive or distinctive. Haddon has relied too heavily on the general appeal of dinosaurs to carry the books. These are, at best, additional choices for large collections.-Linda Wicher, Highland Park Public Library, IL

Waste of money,
By A Customer
This review is from: In the Garden (Little Nugget) (Board book)
I recently ordered Pat the Bunny In the Garden Board Book for my daughter. She had the paper editions of Pat the Bunny, Pat the Cat and Pat the Puppy and has enjoyed them so much they are tattered. When I saw the In the Garden edition I thought it would be a perfect addition to her library. We live in Germany so I must order all books off of the internet and do not have an opportunity to look at them before I make a purchase. Needless to say I was more than disappointed when the book arrived. As it states on the back cover of the book "Pat the Bunny is recognized as the most important first book for baby's early development. Its unique interactive and sensory approach helps stimulate a baby's developing mind." The only thing interactive about this book is the first page with the bunny fur. There is absolutely no other type of interactive stimulation in this book. The makers of this book have taken advantage of the popularity of Pat the Bunny in order to make a profit on a newer product that does not even attempt to live up to the claims made on the back cover. This is a pathetic excuse of "a unique interactive and sensory approach". The story itself is nice but to pass it off under the name of Pat the Bunny just for the recognition factor is inexcusable.

A delightful book for toddlers.,
By John B. Jones, Jr. (JBJMAM@AOL.COM) (Columbia, SC, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In the Garden (Baby Dinosaurs) (Board book)
"In the Garden" by Mark Haddon is a charming introduction to "first words" for toddlers. Each page contains a colorful smiling baby dinosaur participating in an activity with a one-word subtitle of the action. (For example, a bright blue triceratops clutching a bunch of carrots while happily munching on one of them, highlights the word, "carrots.") The sturdy cardboard stock construction makes the book easy for little hands to grasp and turn the pages. This book is by far my 2 1/2-year-old daughter's favorite bedtime story, as she eagerly helps her daddy identify exactly what those baby dinosaurs are doing .

Cute,

This review is from: In the Garden (Baby Dinosaurs) (Board book)
ISBN 0307175782 - Cute, just not spectacular or particularly inventive, In the Garden is part of the Baby Dinosaurs set, introducing very young readers to their first words. Nouns are highlighted in this book, and each noun is pictured on a page with a brightly colored, Barney-like dinosaur. It seems like a bit of jumping on the bandwagon and my youngest Barney fan friend is unimpressed. It is a board book, and sturdy, which is a nice thing for the not so nimble fingers of toddlers.
