Book Description

February 2, 2010

Suzy Bales sums up garden arrangements like this: "Life is best lived in sync with the seasons." She brings a new angle to four-season garden bouquets—gather the blooms, but don’t overlook the leaves, branches, and vines you find in the off-season. Her fresh-from-the-garden arrangements celebrate the ever-changing landscape and feature unique combinations of flowers and foliage for floral creations in every style.

Lifelong gardener and lifestyle writer Bales also takes on the role as inspirational designer to educate gardeners about the latest research on conditioning individual garden flowers, how to care for them immediately after cutting, and the length of time they can be expected to last. No other book has compiled such complete instructions for prolonging the bloom.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Garden Bouquets and Beyond is a reference book you'll refer to frequently, one that's so beautiful you'll leave it out on the coffee table for guests to enjoy."
-- Georgeanne Davis, The Free Press

"The new book, Garden Bouquets and Beyond, is a fine showcase of the best blooms and foliage plants the northeastern garden has to offer with instructions on how to grow them and arrange them in gorgeous bouquets...The book has a classic feel to it...I think it is timeless, both in its style and advice...It's indispensable!"
-- Martha Moments Blog

"Suzy Bales’ books are always a treat, and here she brings her sense of style to flower arranging and the cutting garden."
--New York Botanical Garden - 10 Must Reads for 2010

"'Garden Bouquets and Beyond' by Suzy Bales is a book that's sure to make gardeners anticipate warming weather with even greater urgency...Brimming with voluptuous images of vases filled with long-stemmed pink peonies, sprays of blushing azaleas and other blossoms, this is a book of dreams for growers and lovers of flowers."
-- Kimberly L. Jackson, The Star-Ledger

"[F]or my money, no one writes -- or photographs -- a better garden book than Suzy Bales."
-- Mackenzie Carpenter, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

"I found Bales' instructions not only burgeoning with fresh ideas but written so clearly and concisely, they are easy for even a neophyte to follow. She not only capitalizes on the flowers' beauty, she also cashes in on their fragrance - to the delight of all who view them."
-- Jody Headlee, The Oakland Press

"If you love to see and abundance of flowers growing in your garden but are somewhat hesitant about how to bring their color and fragrance successfully indoors, "Garden Bouquets and Beyond" could be the ideal book for you.  Suzy's book takes found objects, foliage of all colors and seasonal blooms to put together deceptively simple, beautiful arrangements."

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow - What a Find! February 19, 2010
By Trish33
Format:Hardcover
I've always wanted someone to show me how to make beautiful flower arrangements from what's available in the garden -- instead of from some art director's wish list. Her approach is easy to follow and down-to-earth. Love it!!!
