4.0 out of 5 stars A delightful book for toddlers.
"In the Garden" by Mark Haddon is a charming introduction to "first words" for toddlers. Each page contains a colorful smiling baby dinosaur participating in an activity with a one-word subtitle of the action. (For example, a bright blue triceratops clutching a bunch of carrots while happily munching on one of them, highlights the word,...

This review is from: In the Garden (Little Nugget) (Board book)
I recently ordered Pat the Bunny In the Garden Board Book for my daughter. She had the paper editions of Pat the Bunny, Pat the Cat and Pat the Puppy and has enjoyed them so much they are tattered. When I saw the In the Garden edition I thought it would be a perfect addition to her library. We live in Germany so I must order all books off of the internet and do not have an opportunity to look at them before I make a purchase. Needless to say I was more than disappointed when the book arrived. As it states on the back cover of the book "Pat the Bunny is recognized as the most important first book for baby's early development. Its unique interactive and sensory approach helps stimulate a baby's developing mind." The only thing interactive about this book is the first page with the bunny fur. There is absolutely no other type of interactive stimulation in this book. The makers of this book have taken advantage of the popularity of Pat the Bunny in order to make a profit on a newer product that does not even attempt to live up to the claims made on the back cover. This is a pathetic excuse of "a unique interactive and sensory approach". The story itself is nice but to pass it off under the name of Pat the Bunny just for the recognition factor is inexcusable.

"In the Garden" by Mark Haddon is a charming introduction to "first words" for toddlers. Each page contains a colorful smiling baby dinosaur participating in an activity with a one-word subtitle of the action. (For example, a bright blue triceratops clutching a bunch of carrots while happily munching on one of them, highlights the word, "carrots.") The sturdy cardboard stock construction makes the book easy for little hands to grasp and turn the pages. This book is by far my 2 1/2-year-old daughter's favorite bedtime story, as she eagerly helps her daddy identify exactly what those baby dinosaurs are doing .

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute, October 11, 2005
ISBN 0307175782 - Cute, just not spectacular or particularly inventive, In the Garden is part of the Baby Dinosaurs set, introducing very young readers to their first words. Nouns are highlighted in this book, and each noun is pictured on a page with a brightly colored, Barney-like dinosaur. It seems like a bit of jumping on the bandwagon and my youngest Barney fan friend is unimpressed. It is a board book, and sturdy, which is a nice thing for the not so nimble fingers of toddlers.
