Wow, I was so impressed to hear this album. When I first heard it I was hooked from song one. Under the water just made me feel great when I heard it. This artist should be more appreciated. I hope other buyers will recommend her!

Great debut album,
This review is from: Garden (Audio CD)
A great debut album from Australian singer/composer Merril Bainbridge. It's an enjoyable listen...her voice is sweet without being too sugary like Donna Lewis. I don't know why she hasn't released a new album lately, not since "Between the days" from 1998...hopefully though she will soon. I think most people will be familiar with the hit song "Mouth" which got a lot of airtime, but as others have stated here, its not really the best song on this album. There is definately a lot to enjoy here, and I can't name one song that I don't like. The 12 page booklet includes all lyrics.

A superb album that ages well.,

This album is getting on a bit now, but it's still every inch the essential purchase. The songs range from the dynamic Sleeping Dogs to the serene Power of One, but the whole doesn't feel disjointed. In a world of plastic identikit pop music it's wonderful to find an album which while it follows the same rules as everyone else, manages to do it so much better. And like a fine wine it just gets better with age!

Very creative and enjoyable.,

It's amazing that this talented singer/songwriter hasn't topped the charts in this country. Her style is unique and extremely listenable. It is a highly repeatable album with every song different from the rest; also, this album contains not one clunker. The arrangements, mix down, and overall fidelity is outstanding. Highly recommended.

This is a wonderful offbeat album.,

If you like the song "Mouth" which got some airplay then chances are you will really enjoy the rest of this album. It's offbeat with tremedous imagery in the lyrics and musically it's quite innovative. Merril's voice does come off as a bit thin in places where a more powerful voice may have served the song better, but this album in not about showcasing a voice it's about the words and music and she does a great job for the most part. This is definitely an album to try.

Light-pop album,

I bought _The Garden_ after the single "Mouth" became a hit, but I found myself enjoying the other songs on the album more. Merril Bainbridge's debut is a smooth pop effort, alternating between slower ballad-like tunes and more energetic ones. Fun to listen to.

I love this cd! Once I start listening to it I can't stop. I have to listen to the whole thing. All the songs are unique and interesting. Where is Merril Bainbridge? We need more of her music.

a beautifully eclectic album from a truly talented almost virtually unknown australian singer... a must have in my opinion...,

i also found this cd many years ago in a random pile of cds at a radio station tht someone was going to dispose of, and something about it caught my attention, and once again, my talent of discovering almost virtually unknown female singers came through, and i am sooo very grateful i took a chance with this particular cd, as it is truly beautiful... merril bainbridge has a smooth, silky, almost seductive quality to her voice, and such honest, and beautifully, heart felt song lyrics that i can truly feel her emotion comming through on this album, and feel alot of what she conveys on it as well.... i have had this particular album since i was 17 when i first found it, and i must say i truly love most of it.... some of my own personal favorites on this album is the seductive first track "garden in my room"... the way her voice sounds on it, is almost like she is personally inviting you to come join her in her garden room of earthly delights.... i also love the haunting, but yet beautiful at the same time "state of mind", which adds a particular haunting effect on it with the sound of a clock ticking in the very beginning softly, then the song becoming much stronger.... such a beautiful song... i also like the high energy of "sleeping dogs"... i also like the tracks "being boring"... another slow, but truly beautiful song, and i also love the romantic, yet powerful ballad "power of one".... this is such a wonderful, eclectic mix of songs from a truly talented singer who truly deserves more credit and recognition thatn she has ever gotten... i have always loved this album, and i highly reccomend it.......
