Book Description

August 15, 2002
No devoted reader of Beverley Nichols will want to be without Garden Open Tomorrow. The sequel to his famous Garden Open Today (with its open invitation to readers everywhere to come see his garden for themselves), this is his final garden book and the summation of a long career spent enjoying and writing about gardens. Being Beverley Nichols, however, he cannot confine himself to a narrow discussion of gardening for long and provides entertaining asides on cats — including a hilarious critique of feline "ballet" performances — psychic phenomena, and the use of plants to commit murder.

Book Description

This final garden book by Nichols (1898-1983) contains all the wit and humor of his previous books, with the addition of several excruciatingly funny passages about cats and society personages. Centering on his garden at Sudbrook Cottage, this volume follows on the heels of (1963). Sweet b&w line drawings by William McLaren. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Cat Gardener Nichols, January 11, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Garden Open Tomorrow (Hardcover)
Beverley Nichols writes, as always, with gentle, dry humor in Garden Open Tomorrow. He provides a refreshing look at a bygone day and reminds the reader, by example, that a garden is, indeed, a place of constant renewal, even when it makes much work for the gardener. Among his several cat companions, he is tops!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super book!, January 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Garden Open Tomorrow (Paperback)
I had to have a journal on my lap while reading this book in order to write down all the wonderful ideas and new plants!
Heftier in gardening tips, etc than his prior books (which included humorous distractions of country life and people,) it may surprise some who expect more of the same. However, if you love him and love gardening, get this book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as some of his others, June 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Garden Open Tomorrow (Paperback)
In this book Nichols mostly gives instructions on gardening with different plants, but I prefer his other books which have more characters and outlandish situations in them. His enthusiasm never wavers and is always contagious. Good for Nichols fans, but not what I would consider among his best.
