Beautiful flowers oriented designs,
This review is from: Garden Party: Applique Quilts That Bloom (That Patchwork Place) (Paperback)
"Garden Party: Appliqué Quilts that Bloom" contains everything you need to know to make absolutely beautiful appliqué quilts. Every aspect of appliqué quilting is covered including quiltmaking basics, equipment, stitching techniques, appliqué techniques, and even the patterns for the quilts in the book. These quilt examples consist mostly of either pastel or bright colorful flowers, hence the title "Garden Party". "Garden Party: Appliqué Quilts that Bloom" is a highly recommended purchase for anyone interested in quilting and especially so if you are interested in appliqué techniques in quilting or flower based patterns. You will not be disappointed.

Gotta Have It!,

This is a beautiful book with great-looking projects. I heard someone exclaiming over it at my local quilt shop and I just had to see what they were talking about. I couldn't resist it, either. What I liked was the combination of patchwork and applique both. The quilt designs were innovative, too. I'm anxious to try one of the projects soon.

Not quite what I wanted,
By Becky Laswell "Becky" (Austin, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Garden Party: Applique Quilts That Bloom (That Patchwork Place) (Paperback)
This appliqué pattern book has some nice features, but leaves me a little disappointed. While many of the patterns are nice, others are a bit over-the-top on the "cute-sy" scale for me (too cute to fit in around my home or work as gifts for friends, though admittedly my tastes may vary from yours). And, while basic instructions are included for various types of appliqué (machine & hand) I've found that the patterns don't work so well for hand appliqué. There are many sharp inside points, which are very hard for someone like me, who has intermediate needle-turn hand-appliqué skills. These same designs, however, could work well for machine appliqué or with a hand-done button-hole stitch. I like that the patterns combine piecing and appliqué, but overall I'm a bit disappointed with this book.If you're looking for a pattern for machine appliqué, this book may be great for you. If, however, you're learning hand appliqué and want to develop better techniques while making a nice quilt, I'd suggest this instead: Hearts & Flowers: Hand Applique From Start to Finish.
