Great for tomatoes,
By SaguaroSusan "Susan" (Tucson AZ) - See all my reviews

I've owned three of these boxes for over two years. I live in the desert and am terrible about remembering to water so I have a small drip line feeding the water basin to make sure there is enough water. My two different tomato plants have thrived in these boxes. My lettuce was great and I'm going for three more for other veggies. The only problem is that they are too shallow for veggies that need a lot of depth and I would like the manufacturer to make taller ones. I'm very happy with my purchase since they were less expensive than some others I looked at and once they are set up with the fertilizer in the covering I didn't have to do anything else for the entire season except spray off plant pests and pick tomatoes

I have a number of Growboxes as well as Earthboxesand I have to say that these Growboxes work just as well as thee Earthboxes but the only thing that is better is the price. Earthboxes are really expensive. To get an better price on these GrowBoxes I would recommend that u go to the website agardenpatch.com because they are cheaper there than they are here on Amazon only 29.00

I should start out by saying that my Grow Box plants are *almost* all doing very nicely, and that I own 10 green Grow Boxes that line my front porch. That said, they're a bit of a pain in the backside to set up. The canvas cover tends to curl up and reveal the soil underneath, and the four plastic pins that hold it down at each corner do nothing to keep the long sides flat. They also curl up around the edges of the numbered points where you must cut it to insert the plants. This is a purely aesthetic issue, and aside from an occasional bit of grass or weed taking up residence in the exposed soil, it doesn't seem to create a problem with water retention. Also, the performance of the plants is certainly good, but not better than a standard reservoir planter or a very similar product called the Earth Box (which I find that I prefer, in part because of the optional wheels). I use 1/4 of a Mosquito Dunk in each reservoir every month to control mosquito larvae, and it works beautifully--no wrigglers in sight. I did not purchase the $25 tomato cage/plant support set--I thought the price was ridiculously high. We used a much less expensive modular tomato support set purchased at the local garden center, and it's working very well for the peppers, eggplants, and tomatoes. To be fair, these are doing a great job, but so are my non-Grow Box planters. I would only purchase more of these so that all the planters on my porch will match. If I do another set on the patio, I will use generic reservoir planters in the size and style of my choosing.

Great planter, sets up easy but I would advise buying the trelis system with it. My tomatoes are 3 times bigger than the ones i planted in my garden. I will buy 2 more next season.

I have two grow boxes myself and also purchased one for my father and my father-in-law. These boxes are incredible. I had fresh yellow tomatoes this year all the way to Thanksgiving day and this is in Southwest Pennsylvania!! This was all from ONE yellow tomato plant!!! I also had beautiful yellow banana peppers, cayenne peppers and jalapeno peppers. All planted in two boxes, just steps from my back porch. What an amazing crop!! I highly recommend this product!!

I bought this as a gift for my daughter, who ahs no time for a big garden this year. She was thrilled to receive it, and plans to plant herbs in it.

This was great at first, but then my vegetable died and I called the grow box company and they told me that I didn't harvest my vegetables in time.
