Book Description

November 1, 2003
Laurel Bancroft has lived for years as a recluse, isolating herself from a town that has branded her a murderer. But now, convinced people have finally forgotten, she is ready to resume her life.

Then Laurel meets Alec Stanton. Hired to help redesign her garden, Alec is a stranger with a mysterious past. Though more than ten years younger, Alec is exactly what Laurel needs: intelligent, talented, passionate.

But as their relationship grows, so does a dangerous threat against them. Someone wants Laurel to return to her seclusion and give up her younger lover -- someone who hasn't forgotten that night so many years ago.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very poorly written, December 9, 2001
I have read several other JB novels but this was by far the worst. The older woman, younger man story line did not bother me so much as the pathetic dialogue and ridiculous story lines and subplots. One of the worst romance novels I have ever read!

1.0 out of 5 stars Spare yourself, February 27, 2004

I gave this book one star based on the fact the heroine is not the usual 22 year old. However, the plot is absolutely ridiculous, the heroine a weakling, and there is just no sense to any of it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sadly Disappointed..., December 7, 2002
This review is from: Garden of Scandal (Hardcover)
I am a huge Jennifer Blake fan- and from way back in the day. But when I read this novel I just wanted to put it down- not because I had to go somewhere or do something, but cause it was horrid. The storyline was very slow, the characters unrealistic and very very boring the the dialogue was at times, to say the least, comedic- and not in an entertaining way. And the two characters actually hooking up? No way! The fact that they did get together is somewhat grotesque to me... they are not exactly the most 'appealing' people.

If you're a fan of Blake, you should read the older stuff- i.e. historical romances from the 80's. I am sad to say that her material is getting worse and worse. I don't know if she's not spending the time or effort required to produce the quality that she once did. I have read 99% of the her novels and unfortunately the level of writing quality and storyline complexity is diminishing rapidly.

DO NOT READ THIS BOOK.

If you're interested in something of Blake's, see: Prisoner of Desire or Tigress. I guarantee with those two that you will NOT be disappointed!

Good luck reading:)
