4.0 out of 5 stars Warm and lovin' it!
Also in SoCal, here, and we just fired up our new table top heater. It does take a little time to actually warm up completely, but once it does, it's perfect. Just what I was looking for. Not sure why the other reviewers said it was not warm enough. It is evening as I write this, and 60 degrees with a light breeze. The heater makes the temperature seem pleasant. I don't...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Very disappointing heater. This is my first experience with a "home style" outside heating lamp. For any other "first timers" out there, spend the extra $80 and go with a 44,000+ btu heater. I live in southern California, and our winter evenings are often on the cool side (in the low 50's), but not really cold. Tonight it is a warm evening (60 degrees) and I am trying...

Very disappointing heater. This is my first experience with a "home style" outside heating lamp. For any other "first timers" out there, spend the extra $80 and go with a 44,000+ btu heater. I live in southern California, and our winter evenings are often on the cool side (in the low 50's), but not really cold. Tonight it is a warm evening (60 degrees) and I am trying this product for the first time. I have to sit right next to it (about a foot and a half) to feel any warmth - and that is after moving it to a side table next to my chair. I hardly felt any warmth with it on the patio table, which is where it is "supposed" to be placed. Definitely not worth the money. You get what you pay for! If you really want some heat, do not buy this heater.

Not sure why the other reviewers said it was not warm enough. It is evening as I write this, and 60 degrees with a light breeze. The heater makes the temperature seem pleasant. I don't expect it to make a windy, 40 degree night toasty, but I feel this heater meets realistic expectations for what it is. Took one star off because the directions are a little difficult (also for some reason the first propane bottle we bought did not work; luckily we got a back up) and now we're up and running. Looks great on our new outdoor dining table, and I'm very pleased with it's size and sturdiness. This will greatly extend the amount of quality time we enjoy on our patio. Had to contact customer service twice during assembly, but they were very pleasant, helpful, and they answered on the second ring, with - get this - NO AUTOMATED SYSTEM - I got a real, live person, how great is that? I also appreciate the enclosed cover in the packaging, as I did not expect it, and I know it will be useful in keeping the heater free of dangerous pollen build up and other debris (which could become fire hazards) since we plan to keep it outside even when not in use.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a good heater, April 24, 2010
Like others who posted a review, i too found this heater produces very little heat. even right next to it on a mild night you can barely feel the heat. I highly recommend against buying it.

i chose this patio heater because the price was right and it looked like it would do the job to heat up my patio. well after assembling it i realized just how cheap it really was. metal was very thin all the way around and not very durable, everything just sort of didnt fit together like it was supposed to. keep in mind im super competent when putting together things so i know what i was doing. i have since returned this junky thing and went over to costco to buy a full sized one for the SAME price. lol. one other thing to keep in mind when purchasing this item is that it uses the small camping propane tanks which are disposable (harmful to the environment) and if you plan on having this thing operate for more than 3-4 hours at a time you better stock up on those propane tanks.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice when it's actually working, May 28, 2011
I've been dissapointed with this heater. It's not the easiest to light, I frequently have to press the igniter 15 times to get the pilot light to come on. When that's finally rolling, I can turn on the heat and it feels great. The heat is effective and the unit is quiet. Then about 5 minutes later, it just goes out. At this point, we restart the process...turn off the gas, go back to the pilot, hold in the knob for about a minute and hammer away at the igniter hoping it will catch fire. There it goes! Ahh...warmth! Oops, 5 minutes later, it went out again! Restart the process! Keep in mind, this is not in high winds, it's in a screen porch that is blocked from any wind. Buyer beware.

I followed all of the instructions, and the device simply does not work. The pilot light will not stay lit.

1.0 out of 5 stars Purchase a blanket with the heater, December 16, 2010
The other item you might want to buy with this heater is a blanket to keep you warm. Cold front in Florida and the temperature was down to the 50's. We put it up on a table top but then it was too high to feel the heat so it went back to ground level. You have to sit right next to the heater to feel the heat and there wasn't much of it especially with a light breeze. The top of the heater was extremely hot, it does have the words hot printed on it but need to be careful that you don't accidently touch it. When the propane was low in the tank, the flame went low, went out and the tank itself froze. So now you get cold using your hands to change out a cold propane tank. The grating around the fire area turned black immediately. Didn't buy this through Amazon but it is on its way back to the store that we got it from. There is not a contact number on the paperwork or the box, no warranty either.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the Best Tabletop...Know what you're buying, November 7, 2010
By
Chuck Schuh (LITTLE ROCK, AR, US) - See all my reviews
A couple of years ago, I purchased a "SunJoy Industries Group" table top propane heater at my local Sam's Club. Recently I needed another one very quickly, Sam's wasn't stocking, so I went to Amazon. Amazon did their job in getting it to me next day air but upon comparison, there were several major differences between my Sam's Club one (very happy) and this one (very average.) They are:
* Build quality is very rough and as other reviews state assembly is an adventure but things did "fit"
* The top dome is not as large as my other model thus doesn't hold as much heat.
* When propane got low, the unit burned with a small flame for over 15 minutes before finally going out. (My Sam's Club model's flame went low and then out after about 5 mins.)
* I give it props for a nice swivel out connection that makes it easier to screw on a new cannister but that doesn't offset the other items mentioned below.
This was one of the less expensive models offered...98% of the time you get what you pay for.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Great!, December 1, 2009

This is the heater I have been looking for for 3 years! Easy to operate, and the warmth is perfect. Only drawback is the electronic ignition went out within 3 days, but lighting with a long fireplace type lighter works just as well. I have recommended this table top heater to my friends!!

I (in England) can't personally review this product as I purchased it for my Son's birthday (in America). He does however tell me that it is a robust heater and very elegant. He says that after some initial teething problems, which the supplier helped with, its GREAT
