Weed Popper,

This review is from: Garden Weasel 95006 Weed Popper (Lawn & Patio)
Before I had the chance to use my new "Weed Popper", my husband took it out to the garden to do some weeding. After one or two pops, the handle split and broke in half. The actual popper is great, but I think a better handle should be considered.

Big Tool Doesn't Accomplish Much!!,

This review is from: Garden Weasel 95006 Weed Popper (Lawn & Patio)
This is a rather balky tool that pops weeds out of lawns. It is not the easiest tool to direct into the soil at the base of a weed. While it does a fine job of removing weeds (and other grasses in close proximity), unfortunately it removes a rather large clump of soil along with the plant materials. One then must bend down, pick up the clump, and hit it on the ground to remove excess yard soil. Does this tool really save time and effort? Not so much!!!

I am mightily impressed with this little gadget! First borrowed one from a neighbor while out uprooting dandelions and thistles by hand, and could not get over how thoroughly it removed each plant, roots and all, without having to bend over or pull hard. A little foot action, and the weed (even some pretty huge thistles with 2-inch-thick stems) literally pops out of the ground. In fact, it works best on the largest weeds, and really small ones will slip between the teeth without being uprooted. The only reason I didn't give it a 5-star rating is because the little black glued-on friction panel at the back of the lever stayed on for almost no time at all; the glue almost immediately started slipping the first time I used my weed-popper (melting? I don't think so, as the weather was not hot)and the panel soon came off the lever. The friction panel wasn't really necessary though, and the weed popper continued to work quite well throughout the day. It appears to be very sturdy, constructed of 100% galvanized metal, and I think it will last well for some time to come. Instructions that accompany it do suggest that it works best when the soil is not too dry, but I have been using it after at least a week with no rain, and weeds are still coming out easily.
