Bought one of these because we don't have a sprinkler system yet for our yard. Last year, here in Oklahoma, we had no rain. To save our oaks, we used this and it worked great!

Simple, yet highly effective product for very efficient delivery of water to tree roots and bushes. This like other Gardena products is German engineered and manufactured to very high high standards. I highly recommend this for watering the roots of trees and bushes. This made a noticeable difference in the health of our trees and bushes.

This is basically made of plastic except for the Aluminum shaft. After the first use it cracked. I tried to fix but it did not hold. If you have hard very dry soil, forget about it.

I had a ROSS deep root feeder which finally died, and everybody was backordered to buy another, so I opted for this Gardena.
It has one great achilles heel; and that is the handle which screws into the main body of the unit and sticks out at a right angle and where you attach your hose. It's all made of plastic and I just know it's going to get broken off. It's by far the weakest link in this device. It's just a matter of time before it gets snapped off.
The oval handle at the top of the unit is also rather flimsy plastic and twists and bends when you are pushing the steel rod into the ground.
The ROSS unit was made of thick heavy plastic and pretty indestructible, and I'll probably be buying one of them in the near future as I don't think this Gardena will last too long.

Nice design, however, the product is flimsy. I am a little concerned how long it will last, especially with how much I paid for it.

After having two Ross root feeders fail, I bought this unit hoping it would last. Purchased it in Sept of 2012 and it broke in August of 2013 so I didn't get one year out of it. When pushing the unit in to the ground (without too much pressure), it broke off where the plastic handle meets the steel water tube. I would not recommend this.

It is important to turn the water on before you plunge this into the ground and use the water pressure ( what there is) dripping out to prevent dirt from driving up and into the holes as you plunge it down. It doesn't go very far down as it isn't very long. It is better on shrubs than trees with really deep roots.

Not efficient at creating holes, the design of the nozzle has the water shooting out sideways, it's better at making a mess than it is at holes. I have to constantly change the angle of the entire tool so the water is actually shooting into the ground. It will eventually create a hole, but not as fast as another deep root watering tool that I have purchased. The only redeeming feature for this is the spray trigger over my other tool, it is more convenient than having to flip a shut-off valve. The plastic components do feel like it is going to break eventually, but haven't used it enough to reach that point yet.
