5.0 out of 5 stars Best sprinkler I've ever owned, June 15, 2000
By A Customer

It seems like there are always problems with sprinklers. They don't adjust well, they are flimsy, they don't go far enough.

Not this sprinkler. You can adjust the water flow, how far it goes back and forth and side to side. It has 6 seperate adjustment knobs. I'm going to buy another. Also, it comes with quick release connectors for your house and the sprinkler.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, May 17, 2003

This review is from: Gardena 31977-6 Aquazoom (Lawn & Patio)
I don't do a lot of overhead watering. The various beds around my yard all have soaker hoses or drip irrigation. That leaves the lawn.

My lot is an odd-sized lot to begin with, and after you toss in the house, the driveway, paths, patios, trees and beds, what's left is very oddly shapped. I thought about installing an underground system with many little heads all designed to fit in the little nooks and cranies, but I really don't water the lawn often enough to make it worth it.

On the other hand, I've gone through a lot of different sprinklers. I've had the cheap "dial-a-pattern" type. I've had the red square thing. I've had the rotating spray type. And I've had more than one oscillating sprinkler. The oscillators tended to breakdown the fastest, and that's why I was hessitating spending so much money on another one.

But this one is different. The design and constrution are such that I don't anticipate it locking-up as the typical oscillating sprinkler does. It also has more controls than you can imagine. You can adjust the width, height, and angle. And you can turn-off the water before it rains down on you! All your adjustments can be made at the sprikler without having to adjust the flow at the faucet.

The biggest obstical Gardena must be facing is convincing people to spend so much on a oscillating sprinkler. But I have to say that while I had my doubts, I think it's a great investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for watering narrow areas of your lawn..., June 20, 2000
This review is from: Gardena 31977-6 Aquazoom (Lawn & Patio)
My lawn is small, and the areas of it between my home and the neighbors' homes on either side used to suffer because I hated trying to water it with conventional sprinklers. This model allows me to water a narrow (e.g., 10' by 50') area with continuous, even coverage. As other reviews have indicated, it also does a fine job watering larger areas as well.

Yes, I know it's scary, this is a review of a sprinkler. Seriously though, it's a darn good sprinker. There are many variables you can tweek on it, like water pressure and range. It gets the job done, and covers a wide area. If you're going to buy a portable sprinkler, I don't think you can do better than this.

A word of caution, not reccomended for indoor use.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far, I'm not disappointed, August 22, 2000

After wasting money on numerous cheap oscillating sprinklers from Wal-Mart and Lowe's (they break or are difficult to adjust) I decided to try this sprinkler and I'm really pleased so far. The most impressive feature is the ability to adjust the width of the flow so that you don't have to waste water watering the road and the driveway! It is well constructed, runs smoothly and very quiet.

I got one of these as a gift nearly 3 years ago, and it's still going strong. I left it sitting outside all winter (OK, so it was a mild California winter) this last year, and aside from a little fading of the markings and some of the orange plastic, it's fine. I love the adjustability of it - I've used it on several different yards, and I'm always able to make it fit the space. The quick disconnect is pretty handy, too, allowing me to grab the hose for something else without moving my carefully set-up sprinkler, or to turn on the water before hooking the hose back up to the sprinkler. The only way it could be improved is if I didn't have to remove the QD from the hose before using it elsewhere.

My only complaints are minor - the particular unit I got has one of the nozzles misaligned, which leaves me with a line of double-water and a line of no water within the coverage zone. I haven't been able to manually adjust it back. Consequently, I need to move the sprinkler occasionally to change the direction of the sprinkling or switch the side that's getting the water-hole. The only other minor complaint is that due to the design of the sprinkler body, you really don't want to leave it sitting out in the middle of the grass, lest you get a dead patch underneath where water and sun can't get to it. But it's adjustable enough that you can set it on the edge of a flower bed or something and only oscillate for half the range with a higher flow volume and still cover the zone.

On the whole, though - this is a great sprinkler, especially for long narrow lawns. I'm about to buy another so I can water both front and back yards of our new house without moving and readjusting the sprinkler every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome sprinkler, August 20, 2001

Without question the best sprinkler I've ever owned. I like how you can make all adjustments at the sprinkler without having to run back to the faucet. And the specs in the description are wrong! You can water very small areas simply. I have four raised beds in my garden, each 4 by 8 feet. I set the sprinker on the edge of each and can water every square inch and not lose a drop outside the boxes. I can also water my narrow boulevard grass which is 5 by 40 feet without wasting water on the sidewalk and street.

I've been very happy with Gardena products. I even have their Reel Mower (Push Mower we call them here). I can pick it up with one finger and mow my lawn faster that my neighbor with his power mower. I don't know if you can get them in the US anymore. Gardena Rules!

I have used mine now for quite awhile. It is so nice to be able to choose the pattern you want. The neighbors' basketball court is next to my fence and I used to soak it. No more! Highly recommend.

I "inherited" this with the house I bought. I didn't even know I had it. I bought another oscillating sprinkler - and not a cheap one - and it just decided to stop oscillating for no apparent reason. This one actually covers far better and seems to have a more reliable driving mechanism. Like any superior product, I see it is no longer available. All part of the deliberate lowering of the quality of life in this country.
