Much easier than string trimmer,

For those of us that find a string trimmer too violent and destructive, this is a good alternative. Very easy to handle. Like a lightweight vacuum, all the weight is down on the wheels and its easy on the back. Did I say easy on the back? I am 6'5" and bending over a conventional trimmer is too painful.

Worth every penny! Much cleaner than a Weed Wacker...,
This review is from: Gardena 8830 8-Inch Lithium-Ion Cordless Grass Trimmer/Edger With Telescopic Handle (Lawn & Patio)
I really had reservations about paying this much for this product. I was concerned it wouldn't be heavy duty enough. Well it is great for tall weeds and getting around small trees that might otherwise be damaged by a Weed Wacker. Very easy to keep clean and doesn't make the mess that a weed wacker does. It doesn't throw that green spray that a Weed Wacker would on the white paint of my house or my legs. You don't need googles and hearing protection for this thing because it hardly makes any noise at all. Plus it is light weight and well balanced which makes it more like using a vacuum cleaner than a Weed Wacker. No breaking your back trying to start the thing just push the trigger. No mixing 4 dollar a gallon gas with two cycle oil. And a spray with the garden hose makes the thing clean enough to store in the house with no nasty gasoline smell. Blades are razor sharp as are most German steel knives. Beats my 3 year old 4 cycle Ryobi $200 weed wacker that won't start hands down. Also it is great for mowing around my bee hives. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

It works fine with the exception that the long handle could be more stable as it tends to turn in its mount. But it is not worth spending $200 for it. Get a Black & decker for $45. instead.

The grass shears by themselves are excellent. I have now used them 3 days a week for 1 hour each day for 5 months. They perform perfectly. The handle is a piece of junk destined to break sooner or later. In their infinite wisdom they made the handle very light so older or weaker people could use them. They are too fragile to last. Mine has now bent, and is useless. I figured while I was arranging for a new handle from the nearest distributor in Canada ( none in US ) I would buy a second battery and look into getting extra blades. Canada is totally useless, as was Great Britain ( who refer you back to Canada ). Gardena International also failed to respond. THERE IS NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT FOR THIS PRODUCT. It breaks, and you might as well throw it out. Very disappointing for any product let alone the most expensive in its class. Amazon, however, did come through.

2-1/2 stars. I have a lot of lawn space that abuts my gardens, and I've never been able to use a string trimmer without whacking the heads off my flowers. For several years I've been trying electric grass shears of various kinds, none of which will keep an edge or really work with a handle (requiring a lot of stooping). Finally I bit the bullet and bought this expensive trimmer. Although it does sort of work, it's not a great product. It's difficult to get the blades at the right angle so they actually cut the grass (am I the only person in America whose grass insists on lying down when I'm trying to cut it?), and it's bulky to maneuver. Really, I'm almost ready to invest in a sheep.
