Product Description

Boost your garden's productivity by providing a happy home for peaceful, non-stinging Mason bees. Slightly smaller than honeybees, mason bees are incredible pollinators. Each one visits as many as 1000 blooms per day — 20 times as many as a honeybee! Hang this natural bamboo house against a tree or wall where it will get morning sun and attract mason bees. Female bees fill the bamboo tubes with their eggs, and nectar and pollen for the young to eat.

I bought 2 of these a 2 seasons ago. One was placed near my vegetable garden, and one in a tree on the other side of the yard. The one in the tree was never used, and being in the tree left it exposed to the weather and wear and tear from the wind. I'll be moving what is left of that one. The one near the garden had eggs laid in 2 of the tubes the first year. And this winter it is half filled. Since Mason bees prefer a particular diameter, they are not going to use all the tubes. I'm buying 2 more to put near the garden so there will always be room for any bees looking for a nesting tube. To make sure the bees in my area have something to eat all summer long, I planted a small plot of red clover. That may explain the higher occupancy rate this last winter.

Edit: The description says it lasts one to two years. I have mine under a small overhang against my shed wall and facing south. So far, it is holding up well. I think I have had it 2 or 3 years.

I have had one of these up in Hood Cty., TX for around three years. It has bees in it now, as it has ever since they (bees) found it. The different sized holes appeal to the bees. I built a little wooden roof over it when I attached it to a cedar post; I think this has protected it from the weather, as it still it in good shape. I am going to buy another one as soon as I finish typing. The price is fair, too. I have my bee house near my vegetable beds, and I have very good production...in part due to the native pollinators.

I having been looking in my area for one of these bamboo mason bee houses. The houses I found were plastic, ugly and expensive. This one is charming, made with natural materials and a reasonable price.

I like the item. Made well. It is meant to be hung against something. I noticed that people complained that the hook was off center. It is like that for a reason.

The first season I put it up, only one single tube was used by a single bee. I was a little disappointed. The following season, the house was half full. Yay!

Seems well made and is attractive, at least to Mason bees (and others.) Some of the larger sized bamboo tubes are too big for Mason bees and seem to be included as filler; these larger tubes attract other insects who integrate and diversify the tubular housing project. Since I am not a Bugist, I don't mind. The Mason bees are the largest number of tenants and seem to like it, and they don't seem to mind their neighbors. The bamboo shoots used as tubes will last a long time but the woven container won't. I plan to paint mine (2) to help preseve the woven container. It will add more color to the garden.

Although this bee home is beautiful, it turns out that the holes are far too wide for Mason bees to take residence in them. I ended up having better luck with some hollow reeds that I bundled together and hung up. (I also stuck some of the hollow reeds into the holes on this particular bee house, and that worked too.) So unless you are going to use smaller reeds with this house, I do not recommend it.

Well packed and delivered on time. Mason bees are non-aggressive and interesting to watch. they are also good pollinators.
A Bee house is probably not for those who have a "bee-phobia", or an anaphylactic response to bee stings, but for other nature lovers and for the more curious - it's great fun to watch the industrious little critters at work.
As yet, we have not attracted any inhabitants, but we hope to see some Mason Bee residents later this season...the rent is free!
