5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT!
This book is absolutely amazing!! We used to have gardens when I was little but, typical child that I was, I hated it and did not pay any attention. Now I am slowing down and want to do more than plant flowers (although I am not giving them up either!!) and don't know a darn thing about what to plant where. That is where this book comes in!

3.0 out of 5 stars Focused on flowers
I got this book as a gift, and it is good. However, how it says "7 books in 1" on the cover, 6 of these are about landscaping and different types of flowers, only 1 is devoted to vegetables and herbs, which was what I was looking for. It looks great for a flower gardener / hobby landscaper though.

It has practical tips about what to plant together to balance the nutrients. What plants need the same amount of water and sun (so you don't plant a sun lover in the shade!). And it is so easy to find what you are looking for in a matter of minutes not hours (like some books I have looked at). Plus it doesn't assume you know all of the terminology of gardening (as if I know what air layering, complete flowers, dormant oil, soil sterilizing, and sweating plants are--just to name a few one book I picked up used).

This book is a must read for the basic beginner gardener who just wants to know what plants repel what pests and what should be planted where. It is a great, no-frills instruction manual that is user friendly. I would recommend it to anyone (except people who actually know what sweating plants are, and they probably don't need a guide anyway!!!).

3.0 out of 5 stars Text Text Text, February 15, 2009

Well I think this book is FULL of information, and is not rigid in any way as in, you don't have to read chapter to chapter! And that's good, but their is lots of text, if you are looking for a colorful book full of interesting well drawn diagrams etc... this is not the book for you! But if you are looking for text than this is your book. I was just hoping for a little bit more. Anyway it's a great reference and I suggest if you need to buy a book on a budget this is your book! HAPPY GARDENING!!!!

Whether you have just begun breaking ground in your new garden and have no green thumb of which to speak or you are curious about expanding your knowledge, this book has loads of information and easy-to-follow guidelines.

Here you can learn about annuals, perennials, grasses, you can learn how to build a retaining wall, learn all about vegetable gardens, learn about sun and shade plants and flowers, etc. I was very pleased with this book, and I use it as a reference guide.

First of all, I am a true "gardening dummy". I am trying my hand with gardening for the first time in my life. I bought this book shortly after buying my first house (which came with a yard!) I have always loved the idea of growing lovely plants but have never really tried to do much gardening before. The thing that I really like about this book is that it touches so many subjects! For example, at first, I was reading about general information, plants, soil types, vegetable gardening, etc. but I have found that as I try to grow things in my yard, and a question or problem arises, I can usually find an explanation/solution in this book! It's not super-technical but it does a great job of explaining things to true gardening dummies!

5.0 out of 5 stars All in one, September 21, 2010

I was impressed with the amount of good information in this book if you are a novice gardener or more experienced. It gives measurements of products to buy, gardening basics, design, flowers, perennials, annuals, bulbs, and vegetables and herbs just to name the chapters. It contains all the information you would need. In fact, I was so impressed with this book that I ordered it for the library I work at.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gardening All-in-one for Dummies, April 7, 2009
Fairly good book. Will answer questions for people new to gardening. It will also provide the experienced gardener with answers on the how to's. I would recommend the book to both newbies and experienced gardeners.

I was looking for more specific information on plants, this is truly a "gardening" book, helping with layout, soil, etc. Good value, though

5.0 out of 5 stars We snapped this book up !, February 4, 2012
Wow Wow! We have many gardening books, but found this book for $3.00 minus a 15% discount used. The book is in great condition, with a minor tear on the bottom right front cover. Other than that the rest of the book is clean no missing pages or torn pages! Well worth the price for our budget!

We have many gardening books but wanted this one with all of the information combined in one book Gardening Basics, Garden Design, Roses, Perennials, Annuals, Bulbs, and vegetables and herbs.. it is just like the cover says seven in one books.. This book also has a gardening cheat sheet that shows growing seasons by hardiness zones, insects that are good for your plants, understanding fertilizer-ese, how much gravel, sand, and mulch to buy... And much much more!

This book has great illustrations and even a few colored pictures. This book also has a full color zone map of Eastern North America. This book has so much information.. You will gain a lot of gardening knowledge from this book, even if you are a beginner or have been gardening for years..

We did well with our veggie garden last year and are getting things in order for this years gardening season. We don't want to spend too much money on gardening so when we find a deal that is a steal it is right up our alley!

Well back to reading, so that we are prepared when it is time to plant and care for out garden! We had so many watermelons last year! Whew! Can't wait to see the beauty of our hands work!

Can't wait to reap the rewards! This book will make a good reference for your garden library!

Happy gardening and eating!
