Charming,
By Carolyn Rampone "Carolyn D'Amico Rampone" (Plantation, FL USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Gardening in the Coastal South (Paperback)
"Gardening in the Coastal South" was a joy to read. It is packed with practical information for this part of the country and the pages are chock-full of southern charm. I have been devouring gardening books in preparation for a complete garden renovation after one of the most disagreeable Florida summers in history. This book will be very beneficial with all of the pointers and personal experiences Marie Harrison included. Harrison's obsession is definitely contagious and the pages are bursting down-home wisdom.

Carolinas not coastal south?,
This review is from: Gardening in the Coastal South (Paperback)
I bought this book thinking it was for my area as Wilmington NC is considered part of the coastal South as far as I know. The book focuses on Florida and right off the bat it shows a map of the author's definition of coastal South which doesn't include the Carolinas for the most part. I wish this had been stated in the PR for the book I would not have purchased it. So, although it's interesting I find myself reading it "with a grain of salt" because it doesn't really include my area.

...her passion for Gardening ignites like passion in others!,
By Rachel A. McGrew (Madison, MS United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gardening in the Coastal South (Paperback)
I have this book because I know this lady's passion for gardening! Even though I live outside the Zone 8, I find this book to be extremely useful for my Zone 7 garden. In building a new home, her book is a "book of choice" in giving information that will help me garden more successfully. I loved Marie Harrison's story-telling style. I enjoyed the tales of her family and how these experiences influenced her outlook on gardening and life in general. I give it a thumbs up!

Something for Everyone,

This review is from: Gardening in the Coastal South (Paperback)
This book is perfect for both the novice gardener and the experienced . . . even non-gardeners love it! Helpful information on choosing the correct plants for the coastal areas, along with descriptions of the appropriate plants and the author's personal experiences in gardening, make this a book you will turn to often.Ms Harrison's love of flowers and plants is contagious; you will want to make a quick trip to the garden store or nursery and then dig right in! Better still, she gives you the information you need to be successful. And best of all, the reading is entertaining as well as informative.

Gardening Tips,
By Patricia Vaughan (Niceville, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gardening in the Coastal South (Paperback)
Marie Harrison writes her book like a next door neighbor who is not only your best friend but also a Master Gardener. This is a chatty book, loaded with instructions for those of us struggling with coastal salt and sand. Marie Harrison even covers the "correct" way to trim a crape myrtle. It is a paperback book, but the cover is durable enough to carry the book to the garden. It is a useful and cheerful read.

The real South,
By Jean C. Smith (Fort Walton Beach,, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gardening in the Coastal South (Paperback)
If you are a southern by birth, this book will delight you with memories of the old days. You will rejoice at the memories that surface while reading this conversational style presentation. If you are new to the South, prepare yourself to encounter a friend and expert in the pleasures of gardening. If more writing could be done by people like Marie, who have had their hands in the soil, we could more easily enjoy our flora and fauna. What a style!!!!

Great Book,
By "bshipman7" (Fl USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gardening in the Coastal South (Paperback)
Always on the lookout for a new book about gardening, I was pleasantly surprised to find one specific to my region. Gardening in the Coastal South is exactly what I needed to help me select plants for my garden.I particularly enjoyed the information about butterfly gardening, and I will be on the lookout for some of the suggested plants. Also, I enjoyed the chapter on herbs, since I enjoy growing and using herbs from my own garden. I found many interesting herbs that I'm anxious to try. I feel that Marie Harrison is a friend, because her style of writing makes her seem to be chatting across the table from me. Thanks, Marie, for a book chock full of gardening information that I can use. And thanks for making it an enjoyable read.

amazon doubled my order, didnt let me change to single order,
This review is from: Gardening in the Coastal South (Paperback)
I am very angry with the way amazon would not let me edit my order, I am a 75 year old senior citizen on a fixed income and this hurts, they gave me the run around until the 30 minute time to edit my order change was up,(because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the hearts of the sons of men is fully set to do evil.)but know thou that GODS MILL GRINDS SLOW BUT SURE. I HOPE THAT THIS REVIEW WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR AMAZON CUSTOMERS TO READ...BUT I DOUBT THAT IT WILL BE LISTED IN YOUR REVIEWS.

Flows, good anecdotes,
This review is from: Gardening in the Coastal South (Paperback)
In this book, Marie Harrison reminds me of certain other southern gardeners that I knew while growing up. Her books are packed with useful information and woven in with illuminating anecdotes that I can relate to. I have her first two books about Gardening in the Coastal South and recommend them both. Gardening conditions here in Tallahassee are similar to those where she gardens. After skimming through the Groundcover and Shrub books, written in a different format, I have decided to order them when I get some spare cash. Marie Harrison, along with Felder Rushing and Barbara Sullivan, are my favorite garden authors.
