Book Description

2008
"Gardening Nude" is a common sense guide as well as a motivational self-help book teaching individuals and corporations alike how to achieve greener and healthier living. Shawna Lee Coronado demonstrates through the Get Your Green On Healthy Philosophy, a three part system which includes a Health Plan, Greening and Conservation Guide, and Building A Green Community Plan that becoming mentally and physically healthier is a snap when you are living a green lifestyle. It will empower you to build a healthier and happier lifestyle. The term gardening nude is a metaphoric expression which means to strip away the negative excuses, get off your fanny, and get out into nature to better improve your health and lifestyle. "Gardening Nude" speaks to how the combination of reduced stress, green living, and building relationships can create a positive attitude at work, at home, and in life. For over ten years, Shawna lived with stress and severe health issues. Enduring constant pain, allergies, and asthma led her to take over a dozen prescriptions per day. Miserable, ill, and desperate, Shawna took on the medical establishment and built the Get Your Green On Healthy Philosophy in hopes of finding a way to improve her mental and physical health. By practicing this simple plan, Shawna remarkably changed her health; she now takes only three medications a day and feels better than she ever has. Effectively, it became a miracle cure for her unhealthy lifestyle and changed her mindset from negative to positive. Included in the book are features about real-life people and corporations who are setting a green example for the world. Quoted in "Gardening Nude" are experts such as Andrew Weil, M.D., David Edelberg, M.D., Nirmala Arora, M.D., Richard O Connor, Ph.D., Richard Louv, Ph.D., and Mr. Al Gore. The book has a handy resource listing websites and helpful information. Shawna has included a special final surprise readers can search for; a hidden green inspirational message.

From the first few lines to the final sentences, Gardening Nude by Shawna Lee Coronado is a non-stop motivational and inspirational guide to getting your life on track. It gives hope to those who are sick of medicating the symptoms and not the problem, those who are sick of feeling unsatisfied with their life, and those who are just sick of being sick. Shawna's six step Go Green Health Plan is a breath of fresh air where self-improvement plans are concerned and is composed of simple actions everyone can take that will have big results, from just getting outside to strengthening community bonds.

Unlike so many other books that try to pass the blame of unhappiness off to other people and circumstance, Shawna gently asks the reader to take personal responsibility for their own happiness and gives the power of self fulfillment back to the individual. Her plan is all encompassing, and encourages the reader to seek satisfaction on the natural, personal, and community levels. With grace and factual evidence, Shawna explains one of the greatest simple truths: a person can't be whole without a connection to their community and the natural world.

Written with humor, candor, and poise, Shawna's book is truly a gem, and I can't wait to see what her next project will be. Full of can-do attitude, confidence, and honest self-reflection, Gardening Nude is a must-read for everyone. If we all followed Shawna's philosophy the world would be a much better, much happier, and much greener place.

Baby Steps, Baby Steps! January 13, 2009
Shawna Coronado has experienced some health challenges in her life that caused her and her doctors to reevaluate the fuel she was putting into her body as well as how she was spending her time and the level of stress that she carried around. After listening to her doctors' recommendations, she put together a Get Your Green On Healthy Philosophy which did wonders for her life; the idea behind it is to reduce stress by bringing more of nature and specifically the outdoors into your life. Obviously the plan involves more than what I just very simply stated, but seriously, if I gave away the Get Your Green On Healthy Philosophy, well, there would be no reason to read the book, right?

When I was finished with this book, I found that I made personal connections with certain little tips that Shawna gave, to live a greener life. Sure, the way Shawna lives (green, you know!) is not realistically attainable for most people *in an instant*, but by taking baby steps, you can get there if you want to. I felt a deep sense of satisfaction when I finished reading because I got it. And I was proud of Shawna because I imagine her goal in writing the book was to inspire people to take those baby steps, and in my eyes, she achieved it with me. For any writer to pour their heart and soul into a book like Shawna did and to see that readers GET IT, that's an amazing thing.

Awesome attitude! December 5, 2008
We are constantly bombarded with "go green!" but I believe most of us truly scratch our heads and wonder how we can do that other than taking the commuter train to work, pitching plastics/glass/cans in the recycle.
Shawna sheds so much light on how we CAN go green, have fun and enjoy our world while caring for it. It is a change of attitude that we all need.
Shawna is a breath of fresh air! Read her book and check out her blog, it will give you food for thought and a daily smile. =)
