More Pictures than Information; Not Well Organized,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Gardening Month by Month in Northern California (Paperback)
I was expecting that this book would be essentially a checklist of gardening tasks to perform for each month in Northern California. There is information of that nature here, but a large part of the 155 pages consists of color photographs of plants. Beautiful as the photographs may be, the text suffers from lack of organization. The size of the text is relatively small and is printed in gray on blue, which makes for difficult reading, as the contrast is insufficient. The text is not categorized by similar tasks and lacks headings and subheadings. A standardized format for the monthly tasks would have improved the book's utility, with tips on repetitive tasks, such as pruning, put in a separate section in the back. Bob Tanem is a very experienced and knowledgeable horticulturalist, but he needed editorial guidance on how to organize his material for practical use. |
