About the Author

John Brookes is one of England's foremost landscape designers, well respected not only for his garden designs but also for his writing and teaching on the subject. His work has taken him to many parts of the world including Europe, the USA and the Middle East, and he spent several years in Iran where he was Director of the Inchbald School of Design from 1978 to 1979. He has contributed to numerous magazines, appeared on television on many occasions, and written ten books including Room Outside, Garden Design and Layout, The Small Garden, The Garden Book, A Place in the Country, and The Indoor Garden Book. He is now based in West Sussex, where he runs an international practice and his own school of garden design.
