Another laugh riot from Garfield,
By
This review is from: Garfield Beefs Up: His 37th Book (Paperback)
I was so used to the old format in the Garfield series, black & white and the book being vertical. Nevertheless I enjoyed Garfield and his constant abusings of Jon and Odie. Reading Garfield in this new format of color and in a taller book form was a pleasant surprise. I can never tire of Garfield and all his antics, especially when he is swatting spiders. I may be inching towards 30 but I will never stop buying Garfield books. As long as he keeps me laughing I'll keep buying.

Okay, there's not many days left until Xmas but let me assure you that this Garfield book makes an excellent last-minute gift. Everyone I know loves Garfield and would be thrilled at getting a book like this. It's rather thick and taller than usual. Plus it's in full color. As long as I can remember I've loved reading Garfield, even when I was a little kid reading the black and white pocket books. So kids will appreciate this too. Trust me. It opens with 'Garfield's code of Nevers', such as 'Never Eat the Mystery Meat. And ends with 'Garfield's Top Ten Suggestions for New Athletic Events, such as 'The Fridge Lift' and 'Eat till you Explode'. Crammed inbetween are hundreds of hilarious comic strips. Plus there is information on the last page on how to join the Garfield fan club. And why not?

Good old Garfield,
This review is from: Garfield Beefs Up: His 37th Book (Paperback)
Other than now being in full color instead of black and white, Garfield hasn't changed much over the years. He still picks on Jon and Odie, sleeps all the time, loves food, and can't help being nasty, incorrigible, and hopelessly loveable. This book is a thick, beautiful, and easily readable tome to everybody's favorite cat.Highly recommended.

I have been reading Garfield books for a long time now, and I have wathched him evolve in his animation and personality. He is truly still just as funny as he was when he first started. He has made us laugh through all these years, and is still making books. The book was truly classic Garfield. I hope Jim Davis makes a 50th.

In this new,lager,full-color format,GARFIELD sperads even more mirth-and girth-to cartoon lovers everywhere(even me). Whether he's dissing Jon's date, kicking Odie off the talble,or beffing up burgers, this well-rounded cat has an appetite for fun!Even has flip animation!

Funny as ever!,
This review is from: Garfield Beefs Up: His 37th Book (Paperback)
Garfield is funnier than ever. Fans of the huge cat will need no recommendations as far as the humour and stories are concerned. Moreover, the book has an excellent layout and is all coloured. A very nice touch is the little drawings at the bottom of the page that seem to move when flipping the pages quickly. This book is a great read and would make a great present for kids and adults alike.

I still can't believe after all these years he's still going strong! The first book i ever remember reading was "Garfield Takes The Cake" i learned to read on these things! However, i must admit that Jim Davis is starting to run out of ideas. Lately all of his books are about how mentally challenged Jon is, or redo the same lines over and over. The spark is stll there, but its somewhat dimished. This book is still great, but if you look back at the earlier ones you see Garfield coming up w/ better ideas to pass the time (like "Ameoba Man" and "The Sludge Monster" or who could pass up all of Garfields vacations?). Also some of the ideas have changed. In the beginning Jon was a cartoonist, Lyman lived with Jon, Odie was Lyman's pet, and Nermal also used to belong to Jon's parents, those are just a few differences. The book itself has changed too,i like the new color format and all but i kind of miss the black & white version. All in All Garfield is STILL the greatest comic strip ever created, its a must read and he keeps you laughing.

I love Garfield, but this change might spoil collector fun.,

First of all, I would like to say that as a Garfield fan for more than a decade, I can tell when a long running comic ages. Back in the early 80s, there were many crazy Garfield stories in the newspaper strips alone, not to mention the TV specials. These days, the strip focuses on things such as boredom in the house, Jon's lifestyle, and low-key antics. I still enjoy reading Garfield, but Davis is running out of ideas.Second, this compilation of newspaper strips is the first all-color collection, and it's bigger than the other collections. The first 36 books were small and in balck and white. A true collection would have the books all equal in size and content. Besides, Garfield is over 150 in cat years, so will the strip last another decade?

A collection of daily comics,

All this book is, is a collection of the daily comic from the last book with very little new material. I don't think they've created any new material for this strip sense Liz and John ended up together.
