5.0 out of 5 stars Garfield Finally Get's His Game!
And what a game at that, this game so much more complicated than I thought it would be. At first I was just buying it because Garfield is my favorite charicter (I LOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE THE COMIC STRIP! ), and I was expecting a child's game that I would beat in 2 hours. No such luck here. It took me 2 and a half WEEKS to beat this game...

Let me start off by saying this: if you've shopped around the gaming scene long enough, you begin to understand that licensed games are crap. That game about superheroes that should be awesome? It sucks. That one based on a movie that nobody liked? Yeah, that one's bad too. That one based on some gag-per-day comic strip that hasn't been relevant for almost twenty years...

No such luck here. It took me 2 and a half WEEKS to beat this game! Then I had to go back and discover all the secrets I missed (But that's because I wanted too), and took me an extra week! This is a great game. Now's this game and 3D sequal for Dreamcast? Huh, Sega?

This is the best action/adventure game. It is cool and is the ultimate Garfield gift for a Garfield lover. The fat orange cat is back!

Let me start off by saying this: if you've shopped around the gaming scene long enough, you begin to understand that licensed games are crap. That game about superheroes that should be awesome? It sucks. That one based on a movie that nobody liked? Yeah, that one's bad too. That one based on some gag-per-day comic strip that hasn't been relevant for almost twenty years? Yeah, it's pretty good.

Wait, WHAT?
Yeah, you heard me. This game, starring Garfield the fat cat and various other Garfield characters you may or may not care about, is actually a pretty good game. It's a bizarre coincidence that a game based on a comic strip is actually good, especially since every Garfield game before or since Caught in the Act is a horrid abomibanationamation. Or crap. Or whatever.
But anyway, the game has wonderful graphics that actually lend quite a bit of life to each character and environment: Garfield animates like a Saturday morning cartoon character, and all the enemies he fights are pretty well-rendered as well. The environaments are all supposedly based on TV shows, but it's pretty obvious they're all just the usual platform game environments: haunted graveyard, pirate ships, jungle, prehistoric mountains, the usual stuff we've seen millions of times before. But then again, it's all done so well I can't really complain.
The music is predictably plinky, with boring, uninteresting, repetetive beats. Moving on.
The gameplay, of course, the most important part. It's actually pretty solid platforming. If you've played any game during the late 80's to early 90's, chances are you probably came across this kind of game once or twice or a MILLION TIMES. In that sense, this game is absolutely nothing special. I would not recommend this game to anyone who is sick to death of platformers. It might not have the same impact as other better platformers like Super Mario World, but consider this:

Can you think of any other game, right off the top of your head, that is based on a newspaper comic that DOESN'T suck?

The fact is, it might not be anything new or mind-blowing, but it is a solid game, with great animation and creative bosses. I'd recommend it to Sega Genesis owners who are looking to beef up their collection. You could certainly do much worse. (Like buy Sword of Sodan. Euuugggh!)

I guess Garfield's very own game should have excited me more, except for the fact it was on the 1 to 10 dollars rack of my local electronics store. but other than cheapness, it is one of the games that are funish
