2.0 out of 5 stars ok but not great
I bought this for my 8 year daughter. She loves garfield. She did not like this game. My husband played it and said he could see how it could be to hard for her. Maybe when she is older.

I love this game its fun and easy enough for someone who's completely horrible at games like I am to actually make it past the first level. Really good gamers will probably find this game an easy play but its so much like Mario and so much funnier in that you collect donuts and pizza that is should keep even them coming back for more. Nintendo magazine also rated it an 7.0 so I can't be the only one who thinks its fun with lasting quality.

A note for cat owners though, you might want to play the game with the cats out of the room or like me you'll end up with two kittens sitting on your lap trying to figure out how to get the injured kitten out of the funny box in your hand. It was cute but they got me killed quite a few times. ^_~

So you know, I am an adult gamer.

I was amazed how nice & colorful the graphics were. The backgrounds are pretty to look at. I've seen too many games in 2D so this game is in 3D so it was a nice change.

Garfield moves gracefully. At the beginning, they tell you how to make his moves, what to do and guide you through the level, helping you to get to know the game. You collect coins, pizza and donuts for lives. You also have to beat a boss at the end of each level.

There is absolutely no stylus usage in this game which is fine. Some games require it whereas this one doesn't. This game is 3D platformer like Yoshi's Island for the DS. There is only one direction he can go to. No confusion. Or maps to remember. (I have no sense of direction so this game is great for me) Just make Garfield go and collect items on the way from beginning to end of each level.

My sons also like the game too. (7 and 9 yrs old) So it is great for everyone. (even for adults like me who feel like playing an relaxing game) It's not highly challenging at all. A 5 year old could do it. I haven't gone far yet but I'm loving it so far!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not that BAD!!!!!, September 30, 2007

I enjoyed this game alot. These sleeper hit type games always get released and nobody ever knows about it cause nobody ever reviews it or buys it. Well i brought it cause i thought for 19.99 you cant go that wrong. This turned out 2 be a good game and i enjoyed it alot. Its an action adventure game just like Mario. And its setup just like The New Super Mario game where its 3D characters but you only move 2D. Overall i am very pleased i brought the game and hope this helps other gamers shed some light on a game that most likely will go unnoticed.

I love this game! The backgrounds are very rich and nice to look at, the music is cute and it isn't too easy to complete. It took me a few days of playing for 45-60 minutes at a time. Garfield moves great, but sometimes it seems he gets stuck under things and you have to turn around to get back out. You have to collect pizza slices for life and doughnuts are like coins in the Mario games. For every 100, you get an extra life. I thought the bosses were very easy to beat; you only have to hit them 3 times and it's not hard to do at all. Good game for Garfield lovers and kids!!

Garfield's Nightmare is a real fun game. It is just kinda hard. I know what to do and everything. It is good for 8 and up. I am 9 years old and i understand it perfectly. If you loose nine lives then you have to start over.

Me an my sister are addicted to this game. It has so many levels to it. It is hard to get bored. Between the two of us we have over twenty Nintendo DS games and this is by far the most enjoyable.

This game is also challenging and stimulating for adults and definitely deserves the E for Everyone rating.

I highly recommend it for Garfield fans. He looks so cute crawling, reaching, jumping, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mario-like Play; Lots of Fun!, October 10, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars

Loved this game! I like simple action-adventure, "Mario-like" games and puzzles. There is nothing new in this game, but it was fun to play. Graphics are good. Music is not annoying. Levels get progressively more challenging. Plus, it's Garfield! Who doesn't love Garfield?

I also played "Garfield's Fun Fest" and found Nightmare to be much more entertaining. If you are trying to decide between the two, go with Nightmare.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Adorable, Fun, Game Yet!! For a 5 year old and non-gamer mom!, September 19, 2009

I have bought almost 30 games, since last Christmas. Most of our games...we get bored with after a while, turn around to sell them used on Ebay. However, this game is a keeper. My 5 year old and myself, cannot get enough of this game. It's so adorable and the 3-D is awesome. The graphics are so creative and neat to look at. As a non-gamer mom, I was able to pass all levels of this game (after some practice), however my child, who is 5, has a hard time getting past some of the games in the advance levels (the cloud-land and snow-land). There are no directions that have to be read, the game is pretty much self explanitory and the directions are within the game. Also, for those of you not familiar with this game, the style of the game is like Mario Brothers and Princess Peach (kind of, sort of), but easier. If you have a child 5-10, for sure buy this game for them. Each land has 5 levels. There are 4 sections/lands. Fist, Garfield goes through the scary Castle to fight off ghost and spiders, bats and more. There are secret passages through the entire game too. Each level has a secret door and a secret life. For example, level 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 all have the secret door, where you can earn more lives. Plus, there is always a secret area, where you can find a Garfield token, that will earn a new life too. You need to explore all jumps and doorways to find them. After you pass all 5 levels, you will then continue to lavaland (again, another 5 levels), then off to cloudland, finally to snow (winterland). You'll want to collect as many donuts as possible, since 100 of them, will earn Garfield a new life. Also, eating the pizza will prolong Garfield's life. Coins will get you into the secret door, so make sure you grab them all. So much fun!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Yay Garfield!, June 9, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Garfield Nightmare (Video Game)
I have only had this game for a little while but I am enjoying it quite a bit. I am just going to list some of my personal pros and cons.

Pros

- Interesting and fun worlds each level seems to get harder as you go instead of being random.

- It's classic Garfield, how great is that.

- Easy to master movements, but the game does not become repetative or simple.

- This game actually requires some skills and co-ordination and definately some attention to timing those jumps.

- There is hints within the game, but they do not remove the challenge.

Cons

- Why can't he climb? Well as far as I've gotten he can't. Really that would make this game really interesting if Garfield was able to climb, at least in some levels. (and if you are a Garfield fanatic like I am you might also note that climbing would be a bit more realistic for the Fat Cat cause he can't even jump onto the kitchen table, but he can climb up the wall and hang upside down from the ceiling.... Of course the premise of the game is Garfield's nightmares...)

- The orientation and controls of the mini games are a bit annoying. Not to mention the mini games are a bit lame.

- I wish that Garfield actually had a bit more shape to him. I've gotten used to him looking like a simple cg animation, but I think he could use more than just simple shapes for his composistion. Or at least a bit more rendering... I'm just not used to seeing and orange marble for a Garfield head.

- The biggest problem I have is dying too quickly. And I will admit that I am not the best gamer, but I am by no means a newbie either. I have one piece of pizza and over 100 doughnuts... and you need pizza to keep going cause pizza = life. And unfortunately pizza is hard to find and there is like one piece per level and then you can't hold more than 4 ( I think) and if you get more those are converted to doughnuts.... I don't think that was thought all the way through.

Well that's pretty much it. All in all, I like it. If I had played it before getting it I may have waited longer to get it, but I still would have ended up purchasing it.

= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars

It's a really fun game with good graphics and levels, but in the end, there isnt anything to do. All you can do is open up a new folder and start over. But that itself isn't too bad. I would normally rate it five stars, but I like really hard games so I would say that if you like games that are easy but then challenging, this is the game for you.
