If You're Hungry For Garfield, This Is A Satisfying Treat,

This review is from: Garfield: Survival of the Fattest: His 40th Book (Paperback)
I can never get enough of Garfield's sarcastic humor, so I love to sit down with a book like this and read six months of strips in one single sitting. This, his 40th book, covers the strips from June-December of 2001 with a few outrageous outtakes in which you won't recognize Garfield before he took on his present form. My favorites are always the ones with Nermal, but his neighbor Mrs. Feeny also gets her share of torture from the tubby tabby and his antics with Jon and Odie take center stage. When it comes to cats, fat is where it's at and nobody does fat better than Garfield in a smorgasboord of full-color strips to make you laugh the day away.

I really am Garfield's biggest fan. Ask me ANY question about him - I'll know the answer. I absolutely loved this book - Garfield has done it again! I don't understand how you can't love a fat cat! Is it his sarcasm? Is it his love for food? Maybe it's his , well , I don't know what it is! Just read the book =)

Praise from a comic strip fan,

My Garfield collection is not complete but it's up there. The fact that Jim Davis can come up with enough comic strip ideas to fill 40 books and keep them as funny as he has explains why he's been around for as long as he has. To fans of comic strips I say this book is truly worth a look. To fans of Garfield it's a must have.

What haven't I said about Garfield that I have already said before? Congratulations to Garfield in giving the public his 40th book of non-stop laughter. I grew up on Garfield the cat since the early '80s. Twenty + some years later, Garfield is still fat and still funny as ever. In his 40th book, Garfield is still up to his same tricks; making fun of Jon, abusing Odie, squashing spiders, and matching wits with Nermal the world's cutest kitten. I particularly love seeing Garfield squash spiders. It was good seeing Nermal make a brief appearance. I always loved it when Nermal would come to visit Garfield and antagonize the fat cat with his one-liners. No matter how old I am, I can never tire of reading the fat cat's antics. Jim Davis can do no wrong.

OK, 1st, let me tell you, that I am a big Garfield fan. Not for years, though. I do love him anyway. And, Survival of The Fattest is his latest book, and, it is very funny!! Let me tell you my top 5 favorite strips:1. The one where a little ant, a bird, whos ready to eat the ant, and Garfield, who wants to despreatly eat the bird, eats him, and the Ant says "My hero!" And, then garfield stomps him. OH, one more thing. When Jon does those dorky, sad, mad, and not happy eyelashed looks, I call those looks "kiddees". I dont know why, I just think its very funny. Anyway, I love this book!

Really Funny,

Okay, I think this is a funny book, but a let-down compared to some of Jim Davis's earlier books. In spite of this, it is still funny, and still gets 5 stars.
I like the comics dealing with Mrs. Feeny, and the ones dealing with Jon's Mom. I would like to see what Mrs. Feeny actually looks like, however. Still funny, still entertaining, and cat's do not live to their 20's but it is a COMIC STRIP. A very good one compared to some of the unfunny crap in newspapers these days.

Yes, I'm a Garfield fan, and I have never once been disappointed by a Garfield book. Not once, ever.
I like the new "full-color format" which (strangely enough) fits better on my shelves than the old "Garfield format" versions. I may have to get the full-color Fat Cat 3-pack with the first 3 books, just to see what I was missing. I absolutely love the Garfield outtakes. Jim Davis, if you're listening, put more of these in the next books, or do an entire book on these wonderful, great outtakes! I also wish he'd also put out some US Acres merchandise once in awhile. Orson the Pig is just so funny in the series. He sounds WAY too much like a piggy Jon Arbuckle (i apologize for any terrible mental images). My name is BJ Wanlund. I have creative powers, but I can't draw to save my soul.

This is a good Garfield read, and the cartooning is great. But, the only problemm is, the jokes ain't that funny, and I do have to agree with... emergency chick 67(???) that the jokes are running a bit dry. The only "laughs" I got were a few chuckles, and the series is running a bit low on funniness. All in all, I'll give this book four stars, but I'm a bit anxious about the strips in the next book, Older and Wider...
