SOME CLASSIC GARFIELD,
This review is from: Garfield: Travel Adventures (Garfield in the Rough / Garfield in Paradise / Garfield Goes Hollywood) (DVD)
The recent release of the Big SCreen Garfield movie has had the bonus of getting released some classic old Garfield tunes of the 1980's on DVD. A couple of months back saw the release of three classic Holiday specials with "Garfields Holiday Celebrations" and now we have GArfield's Travel Adventures consisting of three prime time specials from the 1980's.
"Garfield in the Rough" - 1984, Jon plans an outdoor vacation with Garfield and Odie- and Garfield does not like the idea from the start. Things go from bad to worse when their campground is visited by an escaped panther. "Garfield Goes Hollywood" - 1987, Jon enters himself, Garfield and Odie in the Pet Search pet talent contest, and they make it to the finals. "Garfield in paradise" 1986, - Garfield, Odie and Jon take off for the tropics, at a cheap resort. They go exploring, and meet a lost tribe that worship old cars. This short was nominated for an Emmy for outstanding Animated Program. The transfers look pretty standard. There's nothing enhanced but then I didn't expect that there would be. And of course there are no extras at all. While i'm happy to see these on DVD it would be great to see a complete collection rather than just 3 episodes per DVD. But that's a small quibble.

No Stranger to Paradise,
By Gord Wilson "alivingdog.com" (Bellingham, WA USA) - See all my reviews (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Garfield: Travel Adventures (Garfield in the Rough / Garfield in Paradise / Garfield Goes Hollywood) (DVD)
Interspersed with his better-known holiday classics, Fim Roman created these three prime time Garfield specials, released individually on video and now all together on DVD. Garfield in the Rough was a 1984 Emmy winner, with Garfield in Paradise (1986) and Garfield Goes Hollywood (1987) both Emmy nominees. This is the third collection to make it to DVD, along with Garfield as Himself and Garfield's Holiday Celebrations, but there is still more to come, like Garfield's Babes and Bullets, and the hour long Garfield's Nine Lives. In 1994, Davis made the unheard of move of buying the worldwide rights to his character from his syndicate, which led to releasing these DVDs through his own company, PAWS. Garfield just hit his 40th book and the cat-astrophe shows no sign of letting up. So heat up the lasagna, kick back and put in this DVD.

"Garfield in the Rough" is my most favorite Garfield anything; it's by far his best TV special. The other two episodes on the DVD are also enjoyable although not as good as Garfield in the Rough. My parents taped it when it was originally on TV in the early 80's and my tape was starting to wear so much that the first minute of the show was completely inaudible. I'm so glad that the shows are being put on DVD now. If you like Garfield at all you will love this DVD! This is Garfield at his comic best.
