LOUISA MAY ALCOTT was born on November 29, 1832, in Germantown, Pennsylvania and grew up in Concord, Massachusetts. Educated by her father until she was sixteen, she later studied under Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Theodore Parker.
