Mystery/caper novel about a detective who must prove his own innocence when he is framed for murder by his commanding officer.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Touching on the themes of due process and the limits of anarchy, this novel gives you a clever plot, brilliant, laugh-out-loud dialogue, delightful, sharply-drawn characters, and a story that grabs you immediately and rushes you through a series of fast-moving events that happen so fast, you're not even conscious that you're reading a book. This short novel is a sparkling jewel of contemporary light-romanticism, strong on story, with just enough sprinkle of thematic depth-garlic!-to give the story a nice after-taste. Those of you who have read F.M. Lavin's short stories have first-hand experience with the kind of clever plot ideas he creates. If you remember his stories and have enjoyed them in the past, you should know that Garlic is the best thing he has ever written.

From the Back Cover

When San Francisco police detective James Quattro discovers that he is being framed for murder by his commanding officer, Quattro must pull out all the stops to prove his innocence and bring a crooked cop to justice. Quattro finds himself on the edge of the law, running a complex caper to fool corrupt cop Ed Fontana into confessing his guilt. Along the way, Quattro enlists the services of a colorful cast of characters to help him pull it off: Al Sutra, aka "Soot," a stuttering newspaper columnist who discovers the cure for his stuttering while helping his friend Quattro; Jack Barrett, a renegade forensics specialist with the science and know-how to get the facts Quattro needs; Shelley Armstrong, a prosecuting attorney who gets in over her head when the caper involves scamming the Mafia by unionizing hookers; and Rae Reynolds, a beautiful call girl who has the key to everythingincluding Quattro's heart.

This review is from: Garlic: A Detective James Quattro Mystery (Paperback)
Garlic is one book that would be great when turned into a screenplay! We need to see more to this story. I would like to know if there are any new adventures on the way in this gripping story....
