Initially, I regreted my order as I discovered that the 150 model operates sonar on 2 frequencies (presumably offering greater accuracy). Once I started using the 100, I quickly dismissed this notion. Unless you are fishing offshore in several hundred feet of water, the model 100 works very, very well.

I began using my model 100 with my fishing kayak, and found the learning curve (this is my first fishfinder) to be quite easy. I have used the model 100 in a lake that I have fished many times before from a boat, albiet without a fish finder and the the 100 detects fish exactly in places I already knew them to hang out. It also educated me that some places that I had been fishing were deceptively shallow (in some cases, less than 2 feet under keel.....I just didn't realize it!)

The menu system is layed out very well. The unit is very simple to operate. The LCD screen is completely viewable in direct sunlight. The unit will also display DC voltage on your marine battery (see notes below). The menu allows you to fiddle with the sonar gain (I lower the power to 30-33 for the shallow water kayak fishing I generally do) to remove clutter/false sonar returns.

One other nice feature is the the fish icons. Literally, the unit will display the fish individually, and display the exact depths of said fish. So I can clearly see the depth of the bottom, the depth of the fish, and my relative distance from both. I can't fathom (no pun intended) how Garmin could make it simpler. The audio fish alarms are pretty cool. The system will "chirp" when the AI detects fish. Also, the fish are "sized": If multiple fish are displayed together, the system will depict them as different sized icons.

This is a great Fishfinder for a small 16' aluminium boat, it works great on shallow water and on deep water, easy to see on the sun, very secure, no problems with water, just dry it with a cloth and still going, very easy to use, and program, many diferent options and really detail images. I recommend this fishfinder for anyone with low budget, work better than others too much expensive.

This is a great fishfinder for the price! The only problem I had with the unit, was the connection for the transducer. The screen continually showed demo mode and I couldn't figure out why. If the transducer connection is not pushed into the quick release housing enough, it will stay in demo mode. Pushed the connector in and it works flawlessly. Great product.

For the price, this does what you need it to do. This device gives the depth and shows the fish. No fancy color, but that's not what I am looking for.

I am a tournament bass fisherman and purchased this for my smaller boat that I use on small waters. Easy set-up, great resolution and the trolling motor mount is included. Excellent product.

This is my first fishfinder, and I didn't want to spend big money to find out if I was even going to enjoy using one. I mainly troll for trout and bass on lakes and rivers. Wow! is all i can say. This unit shows depth very accurately, water temp accurately, and shows fish arches and structure very well. I'm using it to help me keep crankbaits churning along near the bottom, and it has definitely resulted in more hookups of fish, and has helped keep me from getting hung up as much. I'm still learning how to use its features. The display is very easy to read even in bright midday sun. I will eventually buy a more expensive color unit in the $450 range, but for now I'm learning so much using this one and my fishing results are definitely improving. Thanks to this fishfinder, I limited out and caught 7 trout in one hour earlier this week. -- i could see fish arches at dropoffs and I could see clouds of baitfish as well. I could also see logs, tall grass, boulders and other cover underwater as well. The following battery works really well with it: Humminbird 7700281 GCBK CSB GP1272 Portable AGM Battery and Charger.

If you need a cheap depth finder look no further. Very nice resolution and picks up fish like crazy on the 77 kz setting. Can even see fish coming up to hit your gear. Nice little unit for shallow saltwater fishing up to 125 ft. Very clear screen with minimal background noise. I dont think you will be disappointed.
