4.0 out of 5 stars GARMIN LANGUAGE TRANSLATOR
I DIDN'T FIND THE TRANSLATOR THAT EASY TO USE FOR ENGLISH TO GERMAN. THE PHRASES WHERE NOT THAT HELPFUL AND THE GERMAN VOICE WAS NOT THAT CLEAR, HAD TO LISTEN A COUPLE OF TIMES TO GET IT...... HAVING SAID ALL THAT IT WAS GREAT TO HAVE THE TRANSLATOR IN MY GPS (670)DIDN'T HAVE TO LOOK FOR 2 DIFFERENT THINGS. FOR THE PRICE IT IS A GOOD DEAL, I WOULD STILL BUY IT.

2.0 out of 5 stars Won't help with a menu.
We got this for a trip to Tuscany in Italy and were hoping it would be helpful in restaurants when they don't have english menus. Almost none of the words in any menu were in the guide, including ones for beef, chicken, pork etc. It is not a very good dictionary.

We purchased this product with hopes that it would help us on our trip to Paris. The product was easily installed and intuitive. We familiarized ourselves with it before our trip and felt comfortable with its use and functionality. The problem with the Garmin Language Guide is the listing of words was extremely limited and the phrases are not ones we found any use for. I realized that my two years of very rusty high school French from 30 years ago and the ability of most everyone in Paris to speak at least a limited amount of English more than adequate for us to maneuver this large European city. Perhaps if we were in a more rural area where fewer people understood English this tool would have been more useful. After the first few attempts of trying to obtain some utility out of the Language Guide we never used it again.

I reviewed this item on 3/1 and gave it one star because I had gotten two copies of it and both were duds. I got the third one today and called garmin before trying to install it. Here's what I found out. The manufacterer in Taiwan recently changed the product, and the tech support people just realized it a day or two ago, having been bombarded with phone calls. There is a full sized chip and a microchip for different products. Previously, both had the data. Now, the full size chip is nothing but an adapter. You slide the microchip into a slot on the big one, and then put it into the SD slot. It loaded fine, and my wife is pleased. Avoid tearing your hair out.

3.0 out of 5 stars many Questions .... not too many answers, May 8, 2008

Purchased the Language translator 2 weeks ago, installed it and it worked perfectly... integrated fine ($67.00).

Purchased the POI for Europe (This product) last week. I expected the same level of integration and use, but found that a bit lacking.

I have tried to use it about 4 or 5 times but became frustrated as it does not seem to "integrate" with the existing Garmin POI in the unit.

To access the ($127.00) European POI, I think, but am not yet sure that you may have to go to a function or menu option for the POI, and search it manually based on the name of the business, restaurant or location.

If this is the case, it is NOT recommended. If the POI are not placed ON the map in the device, and all you have is an alphabetical listing that you search AFTER you find a POI that you want data on ... well then this is definately not worth what I paid for it.

I thought that the software (which loads automatically into the Garmin Nuvi when you insert the card and turn it on), would interface directly into the system. I thought that when you are displaying a European map, the additional POI, along with pertinant data on the POI woild automatically show up on the map in ADDITION to the existing POI that comes pre-installed with the map.

As there are NO instructions on the card, or in the system for using the European POI, I am at a loss as to how it works until I have the time to spend with it understanding how it interfaces.

This is not good, there is no intuitiveness built into this particular Garmin software, and it is confusing as to how it can cost so much, and yet seem to deliver so little.

3.0 out of 5 stars language chip, September 21, 2007

It is good but not as convenient as I thought it would be. It takes a bit long to look up and use the language translator. The preset phrases are a lame.

Having just spent time in Portugal and Spain this was very helpful to translate words and convert currency. It is easy to use and a real value when you look at the number of languages.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for practicing languages, February 22, 2009

This itemsis great for practicing the inflection and vocabulary of the languages. It's only difficulty lies in the fact that one cannot use the current operating system of the Garmin 750. For voice prompts to happen I had to revert to an earlier operating system. It was an inconvenience. Also there were not any operating instructions with the guide.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Compatible with my Nuvi 1390T, July 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Garmin Language Guide (010-10672-00) (Accessory)
I bought this for use with my Nuvi 1390T, but it came on a standard SD card. The Nuvi 1390T only has a micro SD slot. I called Garmin, and they said the Language Guide comes on a micro SD card with an SD adapter (not what I got). This product was definitely not what Garmin told me it should be. I am concerned that I may have been sold a counterfeit product!!! Do not buy this if your Garmin GPS does not have a full sized SD card slot!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a helpful tool, June 29, 2010
This review is from: Garmin Language Guide (010-10672-00) (Accessory)
This product takes more time to figure out then it is worth. It was useless with basic road signs in French or French menus. One really bad example is that you can find a useful phrase and ask "Where can I go handgliding"? Wow, that will come in handy over and over. It is so bad as a translator that I would never recommend anyone to buy this product, you would truly be wasting your money.
