5.0 out of 5 stars Great for motocycles
I bought this with the Nuvi 550 and it is a nicely built and well thoughtout cradle.

The reason I purchased this was to connect it to my motorcycle and it has everything you need to attach the unit to a RAM mount as well as connect it directly into the 12 volt power system on the bike. Quality is great, the cradle is solid with a locking tab, power cable is...

3.0 out of 5 stars Garmin Mounting Cradle
There was only one problem that should not have been. This unit comes with an 1 amp mini fuse that I blew during installation. This fuse was impossible to purchase anywhere. Tried many automotive stores and stores that install electronics as well as Radio Shack. This was in the spring of 2010 and that may not be the case today. Garmin was NO HELP at all. They kept telling...

I bought this with the Nuvi 550 and it is a nicely built and well thoughtout cradle.

The reason I purchased this was to connect it to my motorcycle and it has everything you need to attach the unit to a RAM mount as well as connect it directly into the 12 volt power system on the bike. Quality is great, the cradle is solid with a locking tab, power cable is fused and easy to connect.

For a RAM mount cradle, it is a great piece of gear and cannot be any easier to assemble and connect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Garmin Mounting Cradle, January 30, 2010

This mounting cradle is different from my other one besides the new power wire that comes with it. When you place your Garmin in the cradle it now locks in with a tab that locks and unlocks. Also, you plug the power into the unit first and then you can cradle it. My old mount you really needed to mount the Garmin and then put the power wire in which was a pain. When the Garmin is not in the cradle there is a place to put the end of the connector on the unit. This is definately better than my standard cradle and well worth the money.

If you don't need the cradle but just want a power connector to step 12 volts down to the Nuvi's 5 volt (?) input, you might consider the Garmin Sd Power Cable. It works to power my Nuvi 550 from my motorycle's 12 volt circuit. Garmin Sd Power Cable

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than the RAM cradle, December 1, 2010

I have this cradle and the RAM cradle. The RAM one is vastly inferior.

First this one has a locking mechanism rather than being a snap in and snap out. The locking mechanism operates smoothly even with gloves on on the Garmin cradle. The RAM cradle was too difficult to dismount without taking off the gloves, and even with the gloves on, I'd end up pushing the power button.

Only thing they could have made better was to include the relay to make it power up when the headlights were on.

I found an unused circuit inside the headlight case that is only powered when the ignition switch is on. As unhandy as I am, it was very easy to do the installation. I have put at least 1,000 mile on My Victory Motorcycle over all types of roads since installing the Garmin Mounting Cradle and Ram Mount. Now I don't have to worry anymore that the battery will die when I need the GPS the most. It works great!

There is no question this mount works. However it held it out from the dash too far to satisfy me. I ended up]
buying a magnetic mount which hold it right on the Dash.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cradle, November 6, 2011

Best cradle I have seen. GPS is held securely with a cam, over center lock. This cradle with a Ram mount are top shelf. Too bad Garmin does not make an adaptable mount and Ram doesn't build a decent cradle.

I'm using this on my motorcycle.

As most Motor Cyclist know.........Heat, Moisture, and Vibration are the three conditions we deal with the most when installing items on the cycle.

This cradle is SOLID....Nothing moves....and it looks as great as it is functional !!

Great Product !!
