I waited for a while to do a review because I wanted to test it on a bunch of long trips as well as local trips. I have had it for almost 3 years and have to say it does everything it is suppose to do. We have used it to travel from LA to Texas and back then this past year we used it to travel from LA to South Dakota then on the Montana then back home. We used it to find rest stops, gas stations and motels along the way. I had to upgrade the traffic after the first year but it's now lifetime I don't have to pay another penny. I also upgraded the maps last year and now all my future upgrades are paid for life. Sometimes she seems to want to take us on a longer route locally, but when we follow her directions she actually knew what she was talking about. Because we live in California and can't attach her to our windshield we got the bean bag mount and it is perfect. It's very sturdy and doesn't slip and it's easy to move her to the floor when we go in to eat a bite or visit the rest stop. We can't imagine not having our nuvi when I try to locate new place. The bluetooth worked beautifully when we had motorola phones, but now we have LG Shine and the calls come thru perfect but it doesn't recognize our phone books so unless we recognize the # we don't know who's calling. Not a big deal. We hate our LG's so we will be changing back to motorola or some other phone once our contract is up. All in all we love just about everything about the 660. A lot less expensive models have come out but this one has never given us a minute of trouble.

I had originally gotten a TomTom Go 720, which I thought to be a great piece of equipment. The only problem being, that it's Bluetooth function wouldn't work with my CDMA Sprint phone. So, I returned it for the Garmin nuvi 660. The FM transmitter is decent. The Bluetooth function is exceptional. The mic/speaker works great, and the mapping software is pretty decent
Also, I was able to get quick satellite fixes from within my house (10-15' from the windows)

Pros:
*Car mount allows for one step installation. Power is delivered through the mount, therefore no need to detach from mount and unplug several cables, everytime you get in and out of the car.
*Turns on/off with car power.
*Bright screen for good sunlight read-ability.
*GPS function can be turned on/off to save battery usage.
*Bluetooth/speaker phone is crystal clear.

Cons:
*Menus not very intuitive. (TomTom interface wins here)
*Processing speed should have been a little faster. Mapping feature a little jerky.
*Clunky antenna must be flipped out for GPS usage. Not ideal for shoving in a pocket.
*Text-to-Voice feature needs improvement. Hard to understand. I end up just looking at the screen to read to directions.

Hardware winner: Garmin nuvi 660 - Pops in and out of car easily.
Software winner: TomTom Go 720 - Intuitive menus run seamlessly. (If my phone would have worked with the TomTom, I would have kept it.)

I bought this 5 years ago and this thing still works after:

-Dropping it in my car more than 20 times
-It was completely submerged in water during boating
-All those map updates downloaded from the web

You can buy a new looking garmin but we hear comments on the web that the display is gone after dropping it 1 time.

Also note that you can get unlimited traffic receiver and map updates with this unit... no subscriptions is needed.

GPS WAS IN GOOD SHAPE AND THE BATTERY WAS NOT DEAD. I CANT COMPLAIN. AMAZON CAME THRU ON THIS ITEM.

We've had a few of these over the years, and with a map update, still running fine. Although Garmin's map updates are the greatest or accurate most times, Im still missing roads that have been around for years, and these dont allow for any sort of corrections.

The handsfree aspect is nice, and the audio player is good, but the FM transmitter is garbage, very underpowered.

this garmin is extremely good, love the bluetooth feature as well as the mp3 option. Map is detailed well, with easy to follow instructions

I've owned this device for a couple of years now and although a bit outdated it is an excellent GPS navigator. Directions are accurate and the display is easily readable in all but direct sunlight. Some back roads may "confuse" the device at times - one amusing incident was when the "nuvi" told me to drive 6 miles and make a u-turn (I was on a jeep trail in the Colorado mountains).

I've had to replace the battery once, but that was a simple process. The battery replacement kit (from a non Garmin source) included detailed instructions AND all the tools I needed. I also purchased the lifetime map update from Garmin which I think is a bit pricey but still a good idea. These devices have advanced over the years as most hi-tech items do, but if you see this GPS navigator for sale somewhere at a good price I don't think you'd regret buying it.

i tried to contact the seller to ask a question regarding one of the feature that the device didnt come with and the seller never answer me

To pay the price for this GPS and not get routing WITHOUT multiple waypoints is unconscionable. What was Garmin thinking?

The routes chosen by the 660 are neither the shortest or quickest, and the FM transmitter is probably there but it does not transmit a signal 4 feet to my vehicle radio antenna. Adding a cheapie third party FM transmitter to the earphone jack gets a good signal to the vehicle radio. The 660's transmitter simply doesn't work.

Aside from those short comings the unit works okay. But then so do other competing units and at a much lower price.

Keep shopping.

the battery to the navigation is completely dead. The touch screen doesnt even work that well. the price for this is beyond way to much. i should get a refund but i cant because i lost all the information to this product.
