This review is from: Garmin GVN 53 North American Remote GPS Navigation System (Electronics)
For quite sometime I was looking for a way to show the screen of my Nuvi 770 on a big screen for the passengers to see. I considered hacking the Nuvi but discovered the GVN 53. I hooked it up to a 40" plasma screen in our mini bus but the picture is a bit pixelated but still very usable. I wouldn't say that the product is faulty since I beleive it was not meant for such a large screen. I'm sure it will work well with smaller screens.
It worked well and the functions and menu is very similar to the Nuvi. For others who might be wondering, you cannot control the unit by touch screen that's why it came with a RF remote control. Navigating the menu using the remote was easy but entering data is not very convenient. The remote being RF doesn't have to be pointed to the unit like an IR remote. The signal of the remote is strong anywhere in the mini bus. The only problem I encountered was the unit sometimes hangs. Shutting the engine and restarting would reset the unit. I find it expensive considering it has no touch screen LCD like the Nuvi but a good solution to what I need.

I was looking for a GPS to work with my Alpine system, finally I found this GPS that works perfect with my system, The only issue is that does not work the touch screen but they managed to have a remote that is very friendly to use; I think they have to increase the memory that comes with the system becouse it is too low, If you want to imput large amount of maps you need to buy a SD memory to do so.

This review is from: Garmin GVN 53 North American Remote GPS Navigation System (Electronics)
I looked at many gps systems and found Garmin to probably be the best. I wanted a large screen because I didn't want to have to squint or try and make out where I am going at freeway speeds on a four inch screen. This one is seven inches and that is easy to see. I can push enter my settings or searches or I can use a remote. I can sit back and use the remote to go where I want. Ease of use is there... for locations I can set it to home and push hoome and it goes there. If I like a place where I am at... I add it to favorites and then I can go there again and again... if I have searched for something and gone there... forgot how to get there or don't want to put in a big complicated search... I go to recent searches and voila... there is is and I click on that... and then it finds it and then GO TO and it tells me how to go there. I have always been a little indimidated by gps systems... and the other guy things was I don't need one... I can do it. I tell you... I have driven up into Canada where everything is FRENCH... and this thing told me step by step how to get around... it even offered me a baggette. Look... this is a great system... I actually bought two from amazon for they had the cheapest price.... I bought a portable one for my Moms car and I actually bought one for my truck that is permanent... but has no monitor... it works with the monitor I have and the sound comes out through my speakers and I can adjust it through my speakers... as to the sound on my Moms... I seriously thought it was going to be very weak... Not at all... it is perfect... you will have problems listening at all. For my Moms... she calls her Mrs. Worthington... because I did the English accent on hers... and mine is Sally because she just has a American accent... if there is such a thing. Bottom line... you will get VERY VERY lazy with these... you will not pay attention how to get to places and therefore you will not remember how to get there or learn it. You will GPS it every single time... that is the only bad thing about these that I can see. But if you do it a few times... to the same place... you will start to remember but then what fun is that if you don't hear it say... in 1.5 miles... turn right... nothing is cooler than that. I will never go back.
