We purchased this control collar a week ago after waiting several weeks for it to come out. We have a 20 month old 69lb lab/boxer and possibly pit mix, extremely smart and equally strong willed, short but solid muscle. We need an electronic control collar to reinforce commands and curb excessive pulling. We've had her since she was 10 wks old and have attempted all manner of collars: fabric control, choke chain, pinch/prong, chest harness, head halter, abdominal leash, nothing kept her from pulling so hard, regardless of what containment device she was wearing, that she either pulled us off our feet, choked herself constantly to the point she was wheezing, or dug holes in her face trying to get the collar off every time we stepped foot out the door. We had to stop walking her for fear of hurting her or ourselves, as she already had multiple times.

This replaced a cheaper unit purchased 6 months ago, the Esky™ Rechargeable Wireless LCD digital Smart Electric Shock training collar Dog Pet System. The Esky worked fine for some situations, however despite having "100 levels" of intensity, it did not work when we absolutely needed it to due to low charge on the electric setting. The unit simply doesnt give a shock strong enough for our dog. It was also cheaply made, which we knew paying the low price for it, but the prongs holding the unit to the collar are small and plastic and broke off within a few months. The range is very small, and battery life weak.

We chose the Sport model of the Garmin to have the built in bark limiter as well as the control collar.

As a 30+ yr professional dog trainer, I have been using remote collars since 1987. TriTronics has been my collar of choice, and the Sport Basic, that the Garmin Delta Sport replaces, was a sturdy entry-level unit that was effective and easy for my clients to use. Enter Garmin. This collar is too complicated, and the bark collar feature is next to useless. The inability to quickly and easily increase/decrease stim intensity and switch between multiple dogs makes this unit difficult to use intuitively. Battery life is laughable - both transmitter and receiver must be charged daily (I've used at least 10 different units) - the TT receivers will run for days without charging, and their transmitters ran on original (9 volt) batteries for YEARS in many cases. The lack of changeable contact points seriously cripples this collar as well.

The final nail in the coffin is that the Sport Basic *was* made in the USA - the Garmin is made in Taiwan!! Since Garmin will eventually replace all of the TriTronics products, all of those jobs will be going overseas. What a shame.

First, I own and I am well satisfied with many, many high end Garmin products. Garmin's quality has never failed to impress me and their stuff has survived moderate abuse from my regular outdoor use and has remained operable and reliable. So I never hesitate to upgrade to their latest and greatest tech.

Enter the Garmin Delta Sport Dog Training Collar and Bark-Limiter.
I found myself searching for an adequate training collar to help us train one of our hounds and also needed something to control his incessant barking while we are away. This product was THE solution to our dilemma PLUS "...it's a Garmin for Pete's sake, a "Garmin!" What could possibly be wrong with it?" So I read the reviews...(yikes) and while some were negative, a lot were stellar, in line with what I'd expect to read regarding any Garmin product. I chose to ignore the poor feedback and bought the system but I kept the reported issues and reviews in the back of my mind. There are always lemons in any product line so I went forward hoping that was the case and some folks just got a few bad lemons. Surely, the one I receive will prove the negative reviewers wrong and justify my faith in Garmin to turn out quality products.

I received the brand new, unopened, unused unit and charged both handheld and collar until fully charged. After the initial charging and studying of the instructions I set out setting it up to my dog. Sized it, and adjusted the voltage until he responded and I was in business. I was ecstatic that first day and night of use. It worked very well. I felt satisfied when we brought our dog in for the night. I removed the collar and placed it on the charger for the night as I expected this would be the normal routine to ensure an unfailing battery when needed most.

I am usually a big brand advocate of both Garmin and Tri-Tronics. I have used Tri-Tronics collars on my two hunting dogs for the last 9 years. I have used hand held GPS units from Garmin while scouting and hunting for the past 7 years. So I was very excited that Garmin bought Tri-Tronics and I ordered the Delta Sport package as well as an additional collar for dog #2. I hate to say this but I could not be more disappointed. The quality and weight looked great, it was easy to put everything together, but it simply didn't work. There have been 2 major problems:
1) I ordered the Delta sport version which costs $50 more for the bark limiter function, but the bark limiter function doesn't work at all on either dog. My dogs don't need a high level of correction and I have no idea what the level of correction is on the bark limiter but it is not functioning on either collar.
2) After exactly 3 days of pheasant hunting in South Dakota one of the collars completely quit working. The collars are suppose to go 60 hours of use between charges. I have charge the collars each night and this did not solve the problem of one of the collars completely quitting. I upland bird hunt (pheasants, ruffed grouse) and waterfowl hunt (ducks, geese) an avg of 25 days a year, so I need a reliable gear, and these failed miserably.
Not much else to say, I was really excited to get these and they are junk. I am now forced to try a different brand.
