4.0 out of 5 stars If you have more than one bike you need this.
If you got the Edge GPS, then you already got a mount with that - actually enough parts for mounting on 2 bikes. They work just fine. But, (and thanks to the person who posted the picture) this accessory kit doesn't come with the same parts as the Edge did, as you might expect. It only has one mounting clip so it only good for one more bike.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mount is poorly made to protect such an expensive computer
I agree with the other 1 star reviews. The mounting clip breaks after only about 3 months of use when taking the unit on and off your bike. Other people in my bike club have reported similar results and have had $500 Edge 705 units fly off their bike while riding!!! Come on, Garmin, get your act together and make something out of metal that is more durable. The 705...

Come on, Garmin, get your act together and make something out of metal that is more durable. The 705 computer is absolutely great, but it is a travesty that it is attached with a 10 cent piece of plastic that can potentially cause the loss of the enitre computer while on the road!!!

I bought this as a replacement for the mount that was included with my edge after the plastic tab broke off. The mount is not assembled, so it can be put together for mounting on either the handlebars or the stem. This comes exactly as shown in the pictures and without any instructions, but it's easy to figure out how to assemble. I don't know what the big rubber piece is for though as my original one didn't come with that.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Poorly Designed!, October 1, 2009

I have now gone through FOUR of these Garmin Edge handlebar mounts. My Edge 705 flew off the bike on one of the mounts while riding down the road as the little tab suddenly broke during a cold weather ride. So I installed a second one that came with the 705. That one broke inside of 2 months. I had 2 more from my old 305, so I put another one on..that one broke, and I put the last one on yesterday, and it broke today. This is ridiculous. They all break at the same point, the small plastic tab that you push down to release the Edge from the mount, breaks. It's a very poor design as all the force is applied at the hingepoint of this tab, which is the weakest point in the design and subsequently breaks. And what is really bad, is that Garmin wants $13.50 for a replacement.

I called Garmin Support today about this and spoke to Steven at Customer Service. Told him the problem and he said that he'd had the same problem with his own 705 mount breaking at the same place. He said that Garmin had had some problems with early mounts and that they had come out with a new mount that was more rigid. But when I asked if I could send them 2 of the broken ones for a replacement, he backpedaled saying that the tab was still on the new mounts and that they had strengthened a different area that was causing a problem, not the tab (which still breaks). I said, so will you send me 2 new ones?? Nope...not for free. So I'm out, 4 of these poor mounts and if I want to put the Edge on any of my 3 bikes, then I need 3 of them...at a cost of $13.50 each plus shipping. The Garmin guy tells me "well it's a small plastic tab and if you put a lot of force pushing down on it, it's going to break cause it's plastic!!". I said, look, I've gone through 4 of them, after the first one, I thought the same thing, and now I barely push down on the release tab and it doesn't matter...the hinge of the tab is the weak point of the design and it's going to break. Then he says " you probably shouldn't use the Edge in cold weather, as plastic breaks in cold weather". Where do they get these people???

Kind of gives me a bad taste in my mouth for Garmin.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wish I could buy another mount, August 12, 2009

Same as the other folks, 3 months into riding mount broke off. Grant it some of the roads I ride on are pretty rough, but I almost lost this because I didn't realize it was missing till I was a mile down the road, had to backtrack and found it in the middle of the road. THANK GOD No cars ran over it. Disappointed in Garmin for such a cheap mount like other viewers, might be beneficial for you to buy 2 or 3 in anticipation of the breaking mount.

This mount definately does the job it's intended for. The nice thing about this is that it comes with what you need to mount to either the handlebar or the stem along with some pads to adjust the angle. It works very well. My only complaint which knocked it down one star is that the tab to release the Garmin unit can break easily if you're not careful. That's how I ended up ordering a replacement. Other than that, it works great.

I did a search on Amazon for a Garmin Edge 305 handlebar mount, and it came up with this product. I looked the specs and it just said it was for Garmin Edge devices.... but it does NOT work with my 305... wrong size and shape.

The mount for my Garmin computer works great. I needed another one for a second bike. My only recommendation is to buy at least two. These mounts do not last a long time if you remove your garmin often. Unfortunately we have no choice in buying them because we must have them. They are cheaply made.

All in all, the handle bar mount is a solid performer. Unfortunately the plastic tab that retains the unit fatigues over time as you need to depress it each time you release the unit. Eventually that piece broke off my previous mount, but not before I got plenty of use out of it.

I'm both a frequent rider and consummate gadget freak. I love the 705. It is a superbly-designed product. When you get past the premium price, the ability to track everything and to connect to ANT+ devices (like my PowerTap) make it indispensable.

The problem is that whoever designed the bike mount should (literally) be fired. I've gone through three in just the past year. I vowed after the first one broke that I'd be more careful, but it doesn't help. If you take your computer off every day (to record its voluminous data capture), the mount will eventually break. And when I say eventually, I mean about three months. That's what I've averaged.

If it weren't frustrating enough that they break, it's just plain a pain to get the computer off the bike! You have to push and wiggle, all while depressing the flimsy tab, and eventually, the computer pops out, with the mount often cutting into your hand in the process.

Not sure how to get through to Garmin on this, but FIX YOUR MOUNT!

Until then, I will keep buying new mounts. Just ordered three for my two bikes (I cannibalized the last good one off my other bike). $14 each. Sigh. I love incenting them to NOT fix the mount!
