I purchased this model Etrex to use as backup GPS on my offshore fishing boat. It is difficuly to insert waypoints and to retrieve information. You will be much better served to by the Etrex about 2 grades above this model which is the least expensive. Spending the extra money will be worthwhile.

best gps if you know how to use a gps! despite the lack of any maps or special features, it is a great gps if you are slightly familiar with the area, or are geocaching, or are using with a map. i bought the bike adapter and use this to find my speed and mark waypoints so i can sync them with Google earth and find out where i was. real easy to mark and enter coordinates. great bargain as this is the cheapest newer hand held gps available.

Great tool usable worldwide to locate where you are and download it to your PC afterwards.
Very useful for "rough" survey of roads, homes, villages, other landmarks. Just "mark" where you are, and then plot it onto your background map once you're home (you'll need the MapSource CD - $89 or so (new)) This is my second e-trex, and I feel this one is more cheaply made. The screen is slower, and not as clear. Obviously not as accurate as the $50,000 equipment, but still gets you there. |
