Less expensive version for adding traffic to your NUVI,

This review is from: Garmin FMI 40, Data cable & traffic (Electronics)
I have a NUVI 205 that didn't have traffic on it. This looked like an economical way of getting traffic information to it. And I was right. At less than $70, it will save you about $30. I was planning on hard-wiring my GPS into my vehicle anyway, so the lack of a plug in was a bonus to me.
There is a lot of wire with this cable. It was engineered for mounting a GPS in a semi-truck, with serial GPS data going to a reporting unit. (It may be NEMA compliant, but I haven't checked.) In a standard car, you could run the wire from one end of the vehicle to the other. There is a single thick feed going from the GPS to the radio receiver. (about a foot.) and another 6 feet from the reciever to the power/splitter. From the splitter there are two leads, both about 6 feet long. One for the power, the other for serial data. The label on the plastic bag containing the cable identified the assignments of the wires. Supply voltage is listed as 6-30 vdc. It will receive 'Premium' traffic. But nothing need be done to get the basic free 'Lifetime' traffic reports. Check the [...] page to verify that you can get coverage where you want to use it.
