Worth the money,

This review is from: Garmin Friction Mounting Kit for StreetPilot i2 and i3 (010-10675-00) (Accessory)
This is worth the money. The unit is fairly heavy and uses a combination of gravity and friction to stay in place. The 3 "legs" are flexible, so will mold to fit most dashboards. I like it for two reasons: 1) the GPS is a little closer to your eyes and with the small screens on the i2 and i3, it is much easier to see and 2) my suction mount stopped working entirely and it was very annoying to be driving along and then have the GPS thud to the dash. I would have given it a 5 star rating except the mount will vibrate around a bit if you're on a very bumpy road. On a side note, you can save about $5 through other internet sites.

I live in California where they allow people to be distracted talking on cell phones while they drive but make it against the law to unobtrusively mount a tiny GPS unit like the Garmin i5 on the windshield. I guess the cell phone industry makes larger political contributions than the GPS industry. Anyway, this friction mounting kit seems to work well although I haven't tried it under really bumpy or rough driving conditions (and hope I don't have to). It looks just like the picture, is fairly heavy so it stays put on the dash, and the GPS unit attaches easily. I bought mine from Amazon and they shipped the right model, unlike the other reviewer who bought from Office Depot. In my opinion this is about as good a solution you can get for a non-permanent attachment. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the price is high. The retail price is ridiculously high and thankfully Amazon had it at a good discount but even with the discount the price is too high. I notice Garmin likes to do that with all its accessories since once you've bought the main unit, you're roped in with the other stuff. At least this item is sturdy so it should last as long or longer than the GPS unit itself.

Latex construction with a firm grip on my dashboard. The best part is the mobility! I can remove the friction mount in 1 second and place it in another car with almost no effort. This works very well on road trips when you're riding in someone else's car that needs a GPS.
Surprisingly, the mount is not that heavy. I brake heavily in my car because I live in the hills, but the friction mount doesn't slip very much. It does slip a little every now and then. The friction mount has never completely slipped off my dashboard.
