The Garmin GPS 17HVS is designed primarily for use in marine applications and can be flush mounted in addition to pole mounted. The 12-channel receiver allows for continuous tracking of all visible satellitesâ??and it's WAAS capable, which means it can provide position accuracy of less than three meters (on average). This incredible accuracy is possible without the use of an external DGPS beacon receiver. The GPS 17HVS also offers excellent EMI/RFI performance for easy integration into systems that will be operated near mobile computing devices and wireless communications equipment

I purchased two of these to replace my previous GPS 17 unit that stopped working after 5 years of continuous use. To be fair it ran with only two required restarts for five years. I am using it as a time/date stamp on an experiment outside. Four or five times the lawn mowing crew cut the power/data cable with the weed whacker which required adding another new DB9 serial connector and power. I have been pleased with the performance.
