Customer Reviews

Plugged in and seems to work fine.

The Garmin Rino 530 requires battery Garmin P/N: 011-01123-30 and this battery is the Garmin 011-01123-31 which will not work with the Rino 530 as advertised.
Stan A. Ross
The second battery would not take a charge either.

Rhino's use alot of power. The 530 has extra sensors to plot the atmospheric pressure so you know if a storm is headed your way. Both the 520 and 530/hcx transmit with a whopping 5.0 watts (as opposed to 0.5 watts in FRS with alkaline batteries in the disposable radios) - with 5.0 watts you can go a long way. You can turn down the power if you want to save it. You can adjust screen backlighting, but inevitably you will drain your battery in a half a day of talking on the high power radio with your group (I use a headset for convenience).

When your power drops automatically from 5 to 2 watts you KNOW its time to change batteries. Having this in your pocket is like gold. In fact, the contacts are gold plated - haven't seen that kind of quality since the HP calculators.

A 270 degree turn of the bail that holds it in place releases the battery - and the new one goes on just as the old did. As the previous person mentioned, they do have a temperature sensor (not sure if it is a thermocouple or thermistor) but it has 2 uses - tell the radio if the battery is too hot to charge or to tell you the temperature. This is why while charging you won't get a filled in temperature display until it cools down.

Of course, having a second battey solves this problem -- I'm happy with mine and keep it on charge, while the rino's is on the radio without the clipon charger, which could stand alot of improvement in mechanical design.

If you talk alot - you need this - if you don't transmit your rino may run for 18 hours. It's how often you hit the push to talk button that drains the battery and if you use all the accessories.

I have 3 Garmin Rhino 530. I LOVE the unit but the batteries have some significant issues. If the batteries go dead and sit for any length of time, they will NOT be re-chargeable. I just ordered 3 batteries from Amazon. They arrived quickly and well packaged. However, when I plugged them into the units, they were DEAD. I hooked up the charger and they will not charge. I tried 3 different wall chargers and 3 different car chargers (just in case I had a bad charger). None would charge the batteries.

WHEN YOU ORDER THESE. Try to talk to the sender and have them TEST the batteries PRIOR to shipping them to ensure they are good. If you already own these batteries, MAKE SURE you do not store them without FULLY charging them. And check them periodically.

With the 3 units I own, I had 2 batteries per unit. 3 went dead (spares) and were unable to charge. So, I ordered 3 new batteries which arrived dead and nonchargeable.

The RHINO is great! The Batteries, well not so great.

The 3 batteries I ordered are being returned.

3 Stars for not having a warning that this battery may or may not work with Rino 530. Ordered this as a back up battery for Rino 530. Battery charged, but always shows "0%" when charging and fully charged. When plugged into the charging clip, the red LED comes on for 1 second, then goes off. Battery does work for about 8 hours, but just does not show % charging when plugged into the charger, nor does the radio show what percentage battery you have up in the top of the screen. Called Garmin Support and they stated I was lucky to even get the battery to hold the charge and work, since Garmin did a redesign on the 530 and its battery. They also stated that Garmin doesn't even list a spare battery for the 530 on their website because of this issue. Therefore, I recommend that you do not by this battery for a replacement battery for the Rino 530. Buy the Alkaline adapter instead and use AA batteries.

The battery was charged when I received it. I placed it in my rino and it powered right up.

Unfortunately; the battery will not accept a charge. The gps will power off of the wall charger but the battery will not charge. GPS just reads 0% charge.
Bummer, I need to figure out how to send this back to Amazon.

This item is identical to the battery that comes on the Garmin Rino 530. You will need this battery if you want the temperature read out to work on the 530 unit. The battery has a device which I believe is a thermocouple that provides the temperature reading. I wanted a spare battery for my 530 and got this as backup for when I'm camping.

Bought new battery and charger for my Rino 530 on Amazon. Battery arrived in factory sealed package.
Plugged in new charger red LED momentarily activated then went off. Battery will not charge.
Very disappointed. Now I have to go through the trouble of returning it.
Will try to find in store.

Purchased as a backup to my Rhino 530 GPS, worked as expected in the backcountry wilderness of Montana. Small, compact and relatively light. Charge last as advertised, ~14-16 hours.
