I bought this and had it hard mounted to my little seadoo jetboat. It works nicely, but the bumping in and out of the water causes the locking mechanism to slide over to the unlocked position frequently (like within 2 minutes). The product should have been designed to accommodate this problem. I have put a little piece of plastic in the groove that the slider slides in and secured that piece of plastic by wrapping a tie wrap around the entire GPS and GPS holder. Now it is secure, but looks a little stupid.

Overcome your fear of putting screws in your dash and use this mount! Why? Because the sticky pads on the automotive version of this mount don't work!

The base may be screwed into the dash (yes, you are making a commitment) and then the bracket attaches with a thumb knob. The GPS will not fly off the dash, and operation will be a lot easier because the bracket will hold the unit stationary.

If you need a bracket for a marine application, clearly this is the one. I have also found that the base of my GPS12 bracket (also Garmin) is identical and allows me to swap between the GPSMap 76 and GPS12. How's that for legacy system support.

Before drilling, remove the panel you wish to mount to, or remove something so you can see inside - you don't want that drill going into anything critical. Yes, for some modern vehicles this may be a bit intimidating. Get a stereo installer to do it for you. I guarantee you will not regret it!

This is a nice little marine mount for the GPSMAP76. The little thumb screw holds the unit tightly in position. I have no problem with the screw becoming loose. For those wishing to use double stick tape to hold the bracket to the helm rather than drilling holes, the base is solid so you can apply the tape to the entire surface. The bracket does not swivel from side to side. Works great for me.

I bought this for my ATV and Snowmobile. Works "OK" but the locking mechanism comes loose and has to be supplemented some way. I made a little rubber stopper to solve the problem on mine.
BUT... there is now a MUCH better solution -- the RAM (brand) mounts are MUCH better. (Amazon has these too). I bought one -- They make this Garmin product obsolete.

I bought both a gps mount and a boat gps. I asked if I could return it since it was a christmas gift. Amazon informed that I could. My friend alredy had this gift I found out christmas day. I contacted Amazon and was given instructionso n returning the mount. No problems. Thegps inself however was another story. Amazon uses a sub vendoer. Amazon had me contact antonline to return the GPS. Antonline advised me that I coulsd not return this item. I contacted them again and advised that Amazon said I could. This company has ignored me since Christmas 07. Amazon has not been very helpful either. Last week Amazan finally said to just return it to antonline anyway and if antonline does not refun me in full they would refund me. This has been the biggest hassel. I have always thought Amazon to be a good service company but now I am fed up.

I tried two times to use this mount to hold my hand held Garmin unit on my 17' boats. I boat mostly on the bays of Long Island so chop and wakes are a fact of life. This mount could not stand up to those conditions, stripping out the angle adjustment twice. The adjusting area is insufficient for the size and weight of the Garmin 76 GPS. If you are looking for a mount for your Garmin 76 go straight to RAM Mounts and buy the components they sell to hold your GPS. It's probably more expensive than the Garmin but worth every penny.

Good, solid product. I thought it had a suction cup mount for multivessel use, but now have to use stainless screws to mount in on the console.
Other than than, fits nicely and holds the GPS firmly.

I'm surprised that this mount takes the abuse it does. I've got it mounted on the dashboard of my power boat and I've not had any problems with it so far. Once set properly it holds the gps in place at the correct angle. No problems with salt spray and the gps shifting out of position. Great little mount

I bought this to mount on a Jet Ski, and I was surprised at how well it works despite it's size.

I am very pleased with this product. It performs great and the vendor was very quick to ship.
