Well, they got me. For the price of shipping, I tried it. Even at that remarkably low cost, I got less than I paid for. The Garmin GPS unit buzzed and repeatedly attempted to re-boot while connected to this thing. I suspect either it did not supply the right voltage for the Garmin product, did not supply enough current at that voltage, or that it supplied power that was not adequately smoothed, which could explain the buzzing, and maybe also the re-booting. In any case, it did not seem to be doing anything good when connected to the Garmin GPS. I removed it, rather than risk damage to the Garmin GPS. Oddly, the particular unit I received was labeled as if it was intended for a Motorola cell phone. The shipping receipt seemed to indicate it was for both the Motorola product and the Garmin product. Maybe it works for the Motorola phone (I would not risk it...), but it sure did not work with my Garmin Nuvi GPS. FYI, the label on the unit identifies it as Travel Adapter Model:TAD037EBE, Input:100-240V 50/60HZ 150mA, Output: 5v 0.5A MADE IN CHINA. I suspect there may be numerous such generic types of units being passed off as specifically for Garmin or Motorola, or who knows what else, but quality does not measure up. Maybe some of them work OK. This one did not.

This was my first such problem after many years of Amazon purchases. The price should have tipped me off, but then maybe that also should have given Amazon cause for reconsideration before offering it for sale through their facilities.

For the cost, it's obviously not worth returning, but I thought I'd share my experience to save others the trouble.

**** Update **** I contacted the seller through amazon's facilities. I was advised the first unit must have been defective, since it should be compatible, though indeed it is labeled and invoiced as if intended for a Motorola phone. They nicely offered to send a replacement without requiring me to return the first unit. I accepted. Unfortunately, the replacement, labeled like the first unit, also caused re-booting every minute or so. I did not allow that to continue for very many minutes before unplugging the thing (two minutes, maybe). I now have two wall chargers that do not work with my Garmin Nuvi 1390.

I'm now wondering how one orders one of these things with any confidence that it is indeed a Garmin sourced accessory and specifically suited to a Garmin 1390.The amazon/seller top line verbiage on this one was misleading on that point, in my firmly held opinion.

**** Update to the update **** The seller responded with a nice apology, a refund and a promise to follow-up on the problem internally. They don't pay return shipping, but told me to just discard the items rather than returning them.

How others managed to obtain good results is a bit of a mystery. I suppose different substitutions could have been made at different times in the past, and some may have worked OK.

Although the retailer provided good customer service and expedited shipping of a replacement unit, both failed to charge my Garmin as advertised?

I must say that this item is NOT compatible with my model 1390LMT.
I'm disapponted.

One problem I have with keeping my Garmin Nuvi 1450 charged is that I generally don't spend more than 20 or 30 minutes on a trip, not long enough for a full charge; and my lighter connections turn off with the key. The Garmin Nuvi 1390T Standard Red LED Wall/AC/Home Charger solves that problem, so the GPS is fully charged when I head out the door. I got the one in Amazon's Frustration-Free packaging. Look, Ma! No plastic cuts!
