THE GARMIN 650, A DISCONTINUED MODEL, AVALIABLE ONLY USED OR REFURB IS STILL ONE OF THE LEAST EXPENSIVE AND ACCURATE GPS UNITS CAPABLE OF BEING USED BY TRUCKS AND BUSES. IT'S EASY TO USE HAS A LARGE SCREEN AND CAN BE ACTIVATED FOR TRAFFIC ALERTS WITH AN ACCESSORY PURCHASE. ONLY DRAWBACK IS THAT THE BUS SETTING IS FOR SCHOOL BUSES WHICH ARE ALLOWED ON SOME CAR ONLY HIGHWAYS IN THE NORTHEAST. BE CARFEFUL AND SET IT FOR TRUCK IF YOU ARE DRIVING A MOTORCOACH. UNIT IS NORMALLY TROUBLE FREEE AND LASTS FOR YEARS WITH THE PURCHASE OF MAP UPDATES.

I travelled to Detroit, MI. last weekend hoping to visit Hitsville, USA, but Garmin was unable to find the location by name or address

I gotta tell you, this has to be one of the best purchases I ever made. I purchased a refurbished 650 about 6 years ago. It has functioned flawlessly, being mistreated by my wife and teenage daughter as well as surviving 108,000 miles on my motorcycle. It is not listed as waterproof, but it's gotten wet many times. I have it mounted on a stalk between the handlebars. RAM Company makes specific mount for the 650. I would just slip a zip-lock baggie over the 650 and rubber band the open bottom. I've ridden on 200 mile stretches of dusty dirt roads in the Northwest Territories, and live in the always wet Pacific Northwest. It finally met it's end when I was caught in a 3 hour wind and rain storm and I left it on the bike without the trusty baggie cover. The touch screen worked fine, even with winter gloves on, and I had it blue toothed into a Scala Rider G2 helmet mounted receiver/intercom. The screen size is fine. It dims down for night riding and is bright enough on sunny days. It has survived outside in freezing temps as well as living on the dashboard in Las Vegas a few weeks. The only thing I would do is see if there is a "Screen Saver" type tape to put over the screen. The daughter and wife would just throw it in their purses to bounce around and suffer minor scratches. If you need a good GPS for cheap, this is it. I don't know about the new stuff out there, but this works for me, and I could break an anvil!

UPDATE: A couple of days after the initial review, I checked it and it is working again! Must have dried out. Amazing... Put it back on the bike and took a 400 mile ride (with a little rain thrown in) Joe R.

UPDATE II: Ok - the new one arrived and lasted 1 hour before the touch screen quit working.
