it says it cannot connect to my phone because it is not SMART BLUETOOTH does anyone know what this means Jul 22, 2014
This means that the Garmin Vivofit will not automatically connect ( or bluetooth ) to your phone. You have to first have the Garmin app on your phone, activate the app, then hold down the button on your vivofit until the word "SYNC" appears. Only then will your Vivofit communitcate with your smart phone. The whole process is barely 30 seconds.
I have a Garmin Forerunner 305 with heart rate monitor/strap. Monitor says "HRM1B." Is that a type of ANT+ monitor? May 25, 2014
Yes any ant+ heart rate monitor will work.
Two questions: Is there any issue with the Vivofit recording steps when driving? Also, I walk on a treadmill on some days and at times hold onto the Jul 30, 2014
Definitely does not record steps while driving. Also, I tested flailing my arms around and that doesn't record steps either. The treadmill is an interesting question... I will try it out sometime this weekend at the gym and get back to you.
There is no alarm. The vivofit is designed to have a 1 year battery life without charging so that's why there is no alarm. The fitbit flex (they don't sell the force right now) has a stated battery life of 5 days (between charges). Another big difference is the option to use a Heart Rate Monitor with the vívofit. This is nice when steps don't count for much (cycling, yoga, etc). I would say those are the two fundamental differences, but of course there are other differences in the details of the implementations.
