The display is huge and beautiful.

At 0.5mile zoom the map is useless, all it gets displayed are highways and/or major roads, everything else is not displayed.

If you are familiar with the Garmin Nuvi family you know about most of the features packed in this unit.
The features that made me decide to buy this unit was the 5" screen and custom avoidances that allows me to select roads to exclude from routes.
Another nice new feature is the customizable Main Menu screen. It really is a great feature.

But there is a major issue with the 24XX series.
The Autozoom feature. With the older models of the Nuvi you could select the highest zoom level that it would display the map on the screen. With the 24XX series it resets everytime the unit is shut off.
This means that every time you power the nuvi and start driving it will zoom out to 0.5miles (800meters) if you are driving on the highway or a major road or if you drive over 90kms/hr or instead to 800ft (200meters) for everything else. You can afterwards choose your preferred zoom setting and it will stick as long you keep the unit powered. Why is this bad? First it takes away choice, and the second is the way maps are rendered at high zoom levels. At 0.5mile zoom the map is useless, all it gets displayed are highways and/or major roads, everything else is not displayed. If you are driving on a secondary road over 90km/s hour it will zoom out and it will look like you are driving off road because theres no road showing in your position.
Its a huge issue for me, its illegal in New Brunswick, Canada to program GPS's while driving, and thats exactly when the unit zooms out and I have to reselect my preferred zoom level (500meters). This is so irritating.
I am seriously considering returning this unit because of this. This unit could be a great machine but the autozoom issue is a deal breaker. Stay away from the 24XX. Garmin needs to start listening to its customers again.

This GPS is much less frustrating then my previous 4 year old GPS. The voice commands make navigating very easy and safe. The speaker is of good qaulity can get get very loud. The screen is of good qaulity was well and can get very bight. These setting can be adjust to suite your preference. Bluetooth works well with my iPhone.

Only problem I had is that it reboot once when I gave it a voice command, not sure what that was about. I've only seen it happen once... I mainly just use the basics, but it's nice that this GPS has some additional features such as traffic, etc.

This is my third Garmin. I bought this new GPS to gain a few new features over the 1490. In this case, I wanted the voice command and the Zip Code search available in the 2460. They both work really well. The only negative feature of this GPS is the screen. I would have liked a higher definition screen with less glare in sunlight. Other than that, I like this Garmin and would recommend it.

I am rewriting this review after using the 2460LT for while now. While this unit does a lot of things well, it has a fatal flaw in the map coloring scheme comparing to older Garmin units.

The gray background Garmin has decided to use on all its newer GPS units is a significant step backwards in terms of screen readability. It looks uninspiring, dim, and difficult to see, especially if the ambient light is reasonably bright (like what you have on a sunny day inside the car). The coloring scheme on older units such as the 1490, the classic light yellow, is significantly better in comparison and actually looks pretty.

Here's what I think is happening. Being an LCD display, it needs to compete with ambient light (think iPad, not Kindle where you can read it on the beach). Bright background with black text will produce a brighter and easier to read image than dark background and white text, especially in a brightly lit environment. This is because LCD has a constant backlit, and blocks light to produce color/shade. Bright background allows more of the backlit to go through, increases the overall brightness of the display (allowing the LCD to compete with ambient light using more of its potential).

Older Garmin units use bright yellow background and black text for maps. This combination is great as it allows the LCD to use its full brightness potential to compete with ambient light. Furthermore, the contrast between the background and the text is also significant, making the text very easy to read from a distance.

The newer Garmin unit uses a gray background and black text (with white edging).
