Garmin compatible PC Interface Data Cable for eTrex Legend Venture Vista Mariner, eMap, Geko (Vista, Legend, etc.)

I bought this to go with my Garmin E-Trax H that I bought at Amazon. No direcions, but I had it working in about ten minutes. I can download my waypoints very easily. Just make sure you have a older computer to use with a serial port, or you have to buy a cable to fit to this one that plugs into a hsb port.

I bought this cable along with a "USB to Serial DB9 (RS232) Adapter Cable (Garmin compatible)" from the same seller, Navsphere, to use with an Etrex and a very nice Mac app called GPSNavX. Taken together, the two cables are rather bulky - a straight Garmin-to-USB cable would be a preferable alternative, but that doesn't exist, so with that mild reservation, I'm happy. Navsphere was quick and fuss-free to deal with, so the whole experience has been positive.

I bought this to use with my Garmin Geko 201 - works great with a USB to serial adapter, and Garmin's Mapsource software. I do occasionally have to reboot my PC to get it to get everything to work - but I think that's just windows, or the usb/serial adapter's drivers - not the cable.

It is a little tight going on and off the GPS - the official Garmin cable may be tight as well - just make sure you push it on all the way when using it. And - my Geko 201 has a little rubber flap that protects the contacts - I accidently ripped it off the very first time I was removing this cable! Dumb! My fault - not the cable's - maybe Garmin's for not providing a better cover - but I was able to re-attach the rubber flap with some electrical tape.

Anyway, the cable works great.

This cable is for the Garmin eTrex H GPS. It has a serial port connector for the computer. You will need an adapter cable capable of supporting 32/64 bit and windows or mac operating systems, if you own a computer with USB ports only. So, this cable does 1/2 the job. Next you will need to buy Map Source from Garmin and download it to your computer before your Garmin will transfer data to your computer. The eTex H is not compatible with the Garmin Base Camp program. Call Garmin tech support before buying anything!

The cable works as it is supposed to and is much cheaper than the Garmin version

I bought this to use with my Garmin Geko 201 to update the firmware. I ordered the cable and received it in short order. The time from placing the order to it being in transit was fast.

I used this cable with an older Keyspan USB serial adapter on a Mac OS X 10.4.11 and with Levono laptop with a different USB-serial dongle. I have not had issues with either. The earlier comments on the the friction fitting part on the Garmin are accurate. Just use a little care with the rubber flap. This is not a cable issue.

I would not hesitate to use this vendor again.

In the spirit of another review I read on Amazon recently, I'm going to make this as succinct as possible:

"Me buy this cable. Me plug cable into computer and eTrex. Me move new firmware from computer to eTrex. New firmware work good. Me happy."

It's cheap but of good quality. I'm not worried about it falling apart. I heartily recommend this cable.

This is a serial cable that I bought for my Garmin eTrex. The eTrex's serial connection port consists of 4 contacts arranged in a straight line and protected by a black rubbery flap. Connecting a cable to this port isn't difficult per se- but it'd be hard in the dark. This cable's connector mated snugly and securely with the eTrex.

The cable doesn't feel cheap or flimsy. I expect it to hold up well.

It does it's job, makes it easy to have fun experiences Geocaching with my wife. I got it on Amazon, really quick shipping, easy price. What more can a man ask for? :)
