Garmont Flash XCR Hiking Boot,
By
This review is from: Garmont Men's Flash XCR Hiking Boot (Apparel)
This is my third pair of Garmont hiking boots and I love them. I put a lot of trail miles on these boots in New England and the mountains of Idaho. They are the most comfortable fit out of the box I have ever experienced and the ergonomic design they put into them really makes a difference. For example, the way the tounge is structured keeps it in place--it has never shifted on me. The way the toebox is constructed is much better for my forefoot, my little toe has room as do all the other toes--and their ability to move keeps my feet warm and confortable. I have narrow heels as well and the boot does not slip in the heel as many other boots will. I have never experienced a hot spot or pressure point in these boots. They have also kept my feet dry and warm regardless of conditions (three season use). The Goretex really works in these boots.
I do put a better orthotic in them--they come with a very basic insert and I prefer one with more heel cushion and a stronger arch support. The uppers have proven to be very durable--I have simply walked the bottoms off of my first two pair. I have recommended them to adults and boys involved in scouting and everyone that has a pair loves them. The only caution I give is that this model is a little light for serious backpacking (which should be obvious since they are sold as a hiker). I use them for hiking with a lumbar (fanny) pack and they are superlative.

This is my second pair of Garmont Flash hiking boots. I am very satisfied with this boot. They are lightweight but supportive enough for a couple of days of backpacking. But, the most important thing is COMFORT. These boots fit me. They are fairly narrow towards the heel but have a roomy toebox so that my toes don't get crushed on the down hills. Very comfortable.

I had never owned a Garmont boot before this purchase, but decided to give it a try when it was on sale for $40 on Amazon.com (hard to beat Gore Tex + Vibrom sole for $40). This boot is very comfortable and felt nearly broken-in from day one. It looks good, too.
I read two reviewers on other sites who had a problem with the sole separating from the shoe after light use, but I haven't experienced that after a month of wearing them nearly every day. If you're skeptical, wait for a good sale.

I purchased these after using a pair of "light hiking" shoes by another maker that I found had a little too much "give" in the soles - I really felt the rocky trails after a bit. Also, I wanted more support around the ankles.
Unlike other reviewers, I did have a slight break in period, but now they wear perfectly and I find that they provide good all around support and are pretty comfortable. I recommend these and would buy them again.

I really like these boots, one of the best day/weekend hikers I've owned. And thats coming from a die-hard Danner guy. These will keep your feet warm w/o the need for thick, heavy winter socks. Great looking boot, comfortable for a weekend hike or spending 36 hrs in planes and airports. This is my first pair of Garmonts, but not my last. I highly recommend.

This shoe is worth the money. I was looking for a lighter weight hiking shoe that was comfotable without a ton of break in time and was watepoof. I found both in Garmont's Flash XCR hiker. The shoe was comfotable ight out of the box. I wore them for just a few hours before my first hike. I hiked about 6 miles with no discomfort at all, which is usually not the case. The shoe was responsive and didn't feel clunky. They seem to be breathable too. The next hike of an equal distance had the same comfort and responsiveness.
