Have worn these boots three times now, in addition to around the house to "break in": two 1-2 hour muddy hikes and for 8 hours on a hike up to Tuckerman Ravine on Mount Washington in NH. The boots are awesome! My feet stayed warm and dry in the snow but they also were quite comfortable at the base of the mountain on dry ground. I definitely recommend springing for the slightly more expensive version with the Gore-Tex. Excellent traction - no slipping going uphill or downhill in the slush! I love the mid-height ankle support. It's just enough for what I need without being cumbersome. My fiance wears the mens Garmont Kiowa and he loves them too. We're so glad to have found these tough, cruelty-free boots! Happy trails!

I've had two pairs of Garmont hikers and one pair of trail shoes. The trail shoes ran a little big but both pairs of boots ran true to size, so I ordered the Kiowa GTX in my normal size. Turns out they are WAY too small! I need at least a half size, probably a full size up. This wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the return shipping costs. It's kind of frustrating.

Love these boots! They are extremely comfortable right out of the box. These boots keep my feet warm and dry. Finally an animal friendly hiking boot that does not leave my foot sweaty. can't say enough good things bout them. Fit true to size as well.

I bought these boots sometime back - for a 4 day hike up the inca trail, no less!. They are absolutely water-proof. They were so comfortable from day 1!! They kept my ankle super-protected.

I was a little worried about the vegan aspect, but the shoes are strong and held up very well. I bought a size 6. Fit perfectly too.

OMG. I love these shoes. They are very comfortable and form fitting.
I went hiking last weekend and had to step into a little water or risk falling down with my SLR camera into the water. They were partially submerged in a few inches of water for about 10 seconds. My feet did not get wet. Love that gortex! I think these shoes are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. I want another pair.

In addition to the great price and how comfortable they are, they are also vegan. I am strict vegan and had seen these shoes in a few vegan stores on-line but they were always sold out. I tried amazon and found them $30.00 cheaper. What a deal!

The only complaint I have is that where the tongue attaches to the sides of the shoe, hurts my foot if I wear thicker socks. I'm wearing thin socks until I break them in. I hope this alleviates the problem.

I live in North Carolina, but I had these boots shipped to New Jersey, to meet me at my parent's house for the holiday vacation. They arrived just in time for the Christmas-time blizzard! These boots kept my feet totally dry and warm through hours of deep-snow shoveling and icy street walking. They appear completely water proof- they have also kept my feet dry through some rain/ice storms back here in NC- and they are great on slick surfaces.
I was originally attracted to them because they are vegan- which is very important to me, but I am happily surprised that they are also extremely comfortable and sturdy. The appearance is much better than I was expecting from some other reviews I read. They look like normal hiking boots to me.
I was able to break them in quickly, and have had no problems with pains at all.
I am 100% satisfied and would recommend these boots to everyone!!

These boots are very comfortable and lightweight, and a lot of thought went into the design to provide optimum fit. The size is true, and there is a nice wide area for the toes to spread out naturally; they aren't cramped at all. No animal products were used in making these boots, so one can feel guilt-free in wearing them. I broke them in on a Mt. Charleston, NV hike, and they give a lot of stability and didn't slip on loose rocks or sand. My feet stayed dry and comfortable despite the high temps at the lower elevations. I'll test their waterproof capabilities on Mt. Rainier next month. Altrec has great customer service, and provides free return shipping if the boots don't fit or if you're dissatisfied in any way.
