This review is from: Garrett's Gift (DVD)
I'm always on the look out for something simple, informative and fun for the the young students I teach. Being a lower elementary teacher it is hard to explain different aspects of African American life, so I look towards video, music and good literatue. This video is wonderful. It explains the inventor Garrett Morgan's growing up and being inquisitive and different. His family only encouraged him. He invented the stop light and the gas mask. Often times young African American children think only Caucasians invent anything, so this video is instrumental in encouraging all children of different ethnic backgrounds. It is also created and produced by Karyn Parson from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Aire. She has matured into an advocate for information on Black History for the youngest viewer, "Bravo". This video is a must have in any school.
