It's the most wonderful Christmas CD of the year!,
By Josh Renninger (Vermont) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Garth Brooks and The Magic of Christmas (Audio CD)
This CD is so awesome. I have his "Beyond The Season" CD, which was good. This one is a lot better; although he does have some of the same songs on this one, and I can't tell a difference between the two song recordings. But the other tracks make up for this... besides they were good songs off of the first one, and seeing as to how you can't buy that one anymore, it's a good deal. "Baby Jesus Is Born" is by far the best song on the album. It's an upbeat, enjoyable song. the traditional songs are great too. The best are "O Little Town of Bethlehem" "Go Tell It On The Mountian" "God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman" and "The Wise Men's Journey" is a great instrumental song. Do youself and everyone in your house a favor and buy this CD... Spread a little holiday cheer!

A nice addition for your Christmas music library,

Having been disappointed at Garth for delving into this whole "Chris Gaines" schtick, it came as a great relief to see this CD released for the holiday season. These days it seems like anyone with a heartbeat is releasing a Christmas CD, and the result is an overcrowded field of marginal holiday music. Garth's, however, is a welcome addition. His versions of (mostly) traditional Christmas songs are immaculately done. For the most part, Garth manages to avoid the "twang" in his vocals, and he is backed up wonderfully by a string section, choral group, and some very nice guitar work. However, where most artists compile similar backup musicians, Garth's is not overblown or overemoted. My favorite track right now is "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen", which I think is one of the finer versions of that song that have ever been done. Heady words, I know, but it is very nice. If you buy only one Christmas CD this season, make it this one; you will truly enjoy it. For the Garth Brooks fans, it's a great effort, and certainly a better addition to his catalog than the last couple CD's he has released.

Must buy,

This cd is super good. I may be an avid Garth fan, but when it comes to Christmas cds I am a lot more skeptical with my selections. Garth does a great job with his latest release, filling the cd with staple songs. This is a very good album and I would highly recommend it.

Just so-so,

I purchased this album because of the large number of traditional tracks on the album. I have to admit I was pretty disappointed. Garth, who can sing heartfelt songs with the best of them, fails to do any of that on this album. It's almost like this album was recorded in a day to remind people that Garth is still Garth, and not this Chris Gaines figure. To the extreme Garth fan, of course you are going to buy it. But for those who are in the middle and who are looking for better traditional albums: Vince Gill and Joe Diffie's Christmas albums are highly recommended.

Garth Brooks and the magic of christmas is a very good holiday cd. The cd contains both traditional and non-tradition music. Even though it sounds a little like garth has turned into a loung singer on some of the songs. The cd is well put together and very enjoyable. Haveing never listened to the first christmas cd I have nothing to comapre it to. But I really am enjoying this new cd.

Get Beyond The Season, the first Garth Christmas Album,

Being a Garth nut who LOVES the first Christmas Album, "Beyond the Season", I was thrilled to hear that Garth had a new Christmas album. I rushed out and bought it and OH MY GOD, what an AWFUL album. I was SO dissapointed! The new stuff on this album doesn't gel. Garth's country voice doesn't mesh well with the Big Band sound of these songs. It sounds like he "called it in". Also, he has RECYLED and rearranged many of the songs from the first Christmas album, "Beyond The Season". This album was a big dissapointment even for a BIG Garth Nut like me!

Adding to Garth's Retirement Fund . . .,

In a word, WHAT A CROCK!First of all, if Garth felt it necessary to release another Christmas CD he could at least have taken the time to record all new tracks. But no, you can find many of these songs on "Beyond the Season" (his first Christmas CD). And how much fun he must have had throwing together this pile of junk (it sounds like most of the new recordings were just quick-mixed in a one day, practice-then-record studio session) and knowing that it would sell on name alone? I'm not a pure country music fan, but I've always found Garth to be a one-of-a-kind performer that was born to sing heart-renching ballads. Here he serves us a dose of fluff that epitomizes the capitalist materialistic side of the holidays. In contrast to "The Gift" off his first Christmas CD--which brings tears to the most jaded listener's eyes--this album has less heart than the Grinch! I guess it shows where Garth's heart really is these days . . . Bottom line, if you want Garth singing Christmas (which he CAN do well) find a copy of "Beyond the Season"; you'll be much happier.

Wow Garth has done it again another wonderful Christmas cd and maybe one of his best cd in a while. He always has great cds and boy what a great cd this is. From Let it Snow to Winter Wonderland hes got all the great Christmas songs to make it feel like Christmas before it's even hear. I recommend every one to buy this Christmas album and to prove it it debuyed number 1 on the Billboards for Christmas cd.

All I Want For Xmas is......Garth!,

I love the CD(sure got me in the Christmas spirit), but I love Garth...so I guess you could say I'm a bit biased. This CD was a long time coming and I'm elated to have it. I'm also praying he does not quit the biz altogether, for it will cast a very dark cloud over his fans and the country music industry. He should, however, take as much time as possible to spend with his family. Thanks for the smiles, waves, winks and hugs Garth...you're the greatest! And thanks for making NY such a fun place to visit!
